Town made the journey to Anglesey looking for 3 points and returned home with all three courtesy of a Matty Harvey winner midway through the 2nd half.

Town started brightly and thought they had taken the lead as early as the 5th minute as Sam Jones broke and ran towards the host team’s goal and his ball across goal was picked up by Paul Williams who fired the ball home only for the Linesman raise a flag that he was offside. Steve Thomas then went close to scoring but his header flew over the bar after a good cross in by Paul Williams. Another great run down the left by Sam Jones saw his beat a couple of challenges before his cut back across the face of saw Lloyd get to the ball but he couldn’t get the important touch to send the ball goalwards.

Llanfairpwll then found themselves unlucky not to take the lead. A good ball in from the right saw Sion Davies get a shot in on goal and his effort hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced down then back into play with Paul Turner beaten and luckily for Town, the ball was cleared to safety. Phil Lloyd then had an effort go inches wide before another good run by Williams down the left saw him pass the ball into the middle and it was cleared only as far as Matty Roberts who’s shot went wide of Rhys Roberts’ right hand post.

The second half started the way the first ended with Town having the best of the efforts. Again, Town thought they had taken the lead on 55 minutes as Sam Jones once again broke clear and beat the challenges of the Llanfair defence and his shot was saved and the follow up fell to Lloyd to strike the ball home, but once again, the Linesmen deemed Lloyd to be offside and the goal wasn’t given. Lloyd was next to have and effort go over the bar before another Sam Jones run saw his beat the challenges of 3 defenders but his shot was saved by Roberts in the Llanfairpwll goal.

On the next attack, Town took the lead. The Wellmen won a corner and it was partially cleared but only as far as Matt Harvey who controlled the ball well, before shooting home to give the keeper no chance for a deserved lead. Sub Tom McElmeel then saw his header saved by Roberts before Llanfairpwll had their first real chance of the half when Sion Davies had a shot go inches wide of Turner’s post. The effort spurred the hosts on and Turner had to palm away another great ball into the box for the Llanfairpwll forward line to attack.

Graham Boylan and Phil Lloyd both had effort go wide before the referee blew for full time which gave Town an important 3 points. Town now look ahead to Wednesday’s Cookson Cup Final against Llanrug United and hopefully go one better this season and win the competition.
