Steve Thomas was the Hat Trick hero as Pwllheli are hit for 6 at Halkyn Road.

Holywell Town entertained Pwllheli in the Welsh Alliance league, and after the recent bad weather, the playing surface at Halkyn Road was heavy but playable.

The game started and Holywell Town were the first to attack, and Matty Harvey cleared the ball from the back to Sam Jones to chase the ball towards the byline, Jones’ cross was intercepted by goalkeeper Jiri Kobr. With a quarter of an hour gone, Sam Jones was again in the action and he won a free kick in a dangerous position after being fouled by the Pwllheli Defender. He took the free kick himself and his powerful drive hit the Pwllheli wall and bounced to safety.

More Town pressure saw a Phil Lloyd cross fly past Sam Jones before Lloyd saw his effort hit the post after taking a slight deflection off the defender’s leg. Pwllheli then had an effort on goal fly over Danny Stanton’s cross bar then Town took the lead shortly afterwards. Sam Jones crossed the ball into the box and the ball fell kindly for Lloyd who’s shot flew into the back of the net through a crowded penalty area. The goal was no more than Town deserved. Five minutes later, Town had doubled their lead through Steve Thomas. Sam Jones picked up the ball at the half way line and broke clear, he crossed the ball to Phil Lloyd who had his shot blocked by keeper Kobr, and the ball fell kindly to Steve Thomas who had the simple task of tapping the ball home.

At half time, Town held a two goal lead and Sam Jones nearly made it 3 with barely a couple of minutes into the second half. A great ball through by Graeme Williams saw Sam Jones pick up the ball on the left, he beat the challenge of 3 defenders but his goal bound shot was brilliantly saved by Kobr in the Pwllheli goal. It was all Holywell now and Town nearly increased their lead a few minutes later but keeper Kobr knocked the ball out for a corner from a Steve Thomas shot. A few minutes later, Thomas again very nearly added to the scoreline but his cheeky turn and shot was cleared off the line by a Pwllheli defender. 3 minutes later, Town had increased their lead as Sam Jones saw his curling shot fly into the top corner with the keeper well beaten.

The Wellmen wernt content with 3 goals and looked to increase their lead and heap more misery on Pwllheli. Phil Lloyd saw his header go over the bar and Paul Williams broke through the defence and watched his shot saved well by the keeper. Graham Boylan came onto the pitch to replace Phil Lloyd and with Boylan’s first touch, scored to give Town a four goal lead. Steve Thomas crossed the ball dangerously into the box and Boylan was waiting at the far post and his header flew into the goal which made it difficult for Pwllheli to get anything out of the game. With 15 minutes remaining, Steve Thomas mad it five, cutting in from the right, beats a couple of defenders before shooting towards goal. The keeper got a touch to the ball but it trickled across the line to make it 5-0 to the hosts.

Thomas completed his hat trick 6 minutes later. The ball was thread through to Thomas who beat his marker, and he rounded the advancing keeper to slot the ball into an empty net to register is first hat trick of the season. The match ended 6-0 to the Wellmen which was a well deserved victory given the chances and possession the Wellmen had and roll on the next match which is away at Glantraeth.
