Town traveled to the Flyover full of confidence for the lunchtime kick off against the Railway men following the midweek win over Glan Conwy, and returned home with all 3 points after a convincing 5-0 win.

Llandudno Junction 0-5 Holywell Town

Both teams started brightly and tried to take control of the game and the first real chance fell to Junction on 13 minutes as Joel Hewitt ran on goal, but he dragged his shot wide of Danny Stanton’s goal. Town tried to break the defence down and they were holding firm. Steve Thomas thought he was through on goal but was flagged offside when running at the goal but Town didn’t have to wait too long to break the deadlock.

Sam Jones, who was causing problems for the left back picked up a great through ball from Graeme Williams, and his cross was perfect to Tom McElmeel who headed the ball into the net past Mike Hughes in the Junction goal. Junction tried to equalise before the break, with Mark Montgomery shooting wide and Joel Hewitt seeing his free kick saved by Stanton. Junction pressed for the equaliser again and McElmeel had to clear off the line as Allan Davies’ header was going goalwards the with the last kick of the half, Town doubled their lead through Graeme Williams, who poked the ball past Hughes after a great through ball by Sam Jones.

The first chance of the second half fell to the Wellmen, as Steve Thomas rode the challenges and beat a couple of defenders before shooting at goal, and his shot was going in until it was cleared off the line by Junction’s Craig Roberts. Town did increase their lead a few minutes later as Sam Jones put the ball in the net after Steve Thomas and Graeme Williams both had efforts blocked, and Jones was lurking near the far post and made no mistake. 10 minutes later, Town won a penalty as another Thomas run down the left tore Junction apart and Saheen Ahamed brought him down and referee Arwel Jones had no option but to point to the spot. Up stepped Paul Williams to take but Mike Hughes pulled off a brilliant save to prevent Town increasing their lead.
Town did increase their lead a short time later though. Steve Thomas headed the ball back into the area which made the keeper do a flying save to prevent it going in, but the ball fell for Jamie Jones who shot back across goal was put into his own net by Junction’s keeper as he tried to save it. Junction then had an effort on goal as Joel Hewitt’s shot came back out off the crossbar, before Town’s Graham Boylan was only inches wide after being put through by Wayne Edwards.

Paul Williams made up for his earlier penalty miss by scoring from the spot on 86 minutes after Jamie Jones had been brought down by Craig Roberts to make it 5-0 to the Wellmen. Town looked for more goals with Graham Boylan shooting over, and Jamie Jones was only inches too high with a header from a Sion Mchugh cross. Wayne Edwards also had to watch as his deft chip over the advancing keeper was cleared as it was going goalwards by Junction’s John Blundell.

The referee blew for full time and it was another excellent win for Town and Saturday’s game against high flying Llanberis can’t come quick enough.
