Holywell Town FC held off a spirited Llanrwst Utd comeback this evening to run out 3-1 winners at Gwydir Park.
Dominating the 1st period for long spells the Town could consider themselves unlucky to bejust a single goal up at the break. Tom Carney was the scorer, slotting the ball in from inside the penalty area after good work on the left flank from Paul Williams & Wayne Edwards.
Graeme Edwards and Ryan Davies both found the woodwork, and the Rwster’s keeper also in good form.
Carney caused a number of Problems for the home side on the right flank, and seemingly became the target for some ‘attention’ from the home defence after the break, before the home side levelled breaking away from a misplaced free kick just inside their own half.
After a period of home pressure, Holywell settled bck into their routine, and a series of chances for Daniel Sullivan (pictured) ended with the recent signing heading home from a pinpoint Edwards corner with just 10 minutes remaining., before substitute Marc Gunther raced on to Sullivan’s flick on to finish neatly with the outside of his right boot.
A satisfying evening’s work for the Wellmen after Saturday’s home loss to Llanberis, and manager John Haseldin will now be looking to carry his team’s on the road form back to Halkyn Road, starting with Friday Night’s fixture with Glan Conwy that kicks off at 7.30pm
