Holywell Town 0-3 Airbus Broughton
By Steve Roberts
The Wellmen fall to defeat against the League Leaders.
On a cold autumnal day, the Wellmen welcomed League Leaders Airbus to Halkyn Road and it was Airbus who got us underway. The first chance fell to Airbus as Joe Chaplins header was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Andy Hughes.
Airbus then had a couple of chances to take the lead, Lewis Buckley firing wide and Joe Palmer shooting straight at keeper Hughes. A good ball into the box by Josh Sheridan towards Shaun Tuck
but he was brought down but the referee waved play on.
The Wellmen were getting forward more now, and Steve Lewis
broke clear and was brought down by 6 who received a yellow card but the resulting free kick came to nothing. A few minutes later, more pressure by the Wellmen saw Shaun Tuck
having a shot on goal which was blocked by the Airbus defender.
A couple of half chances fell to both sides before the break but neither keeper was proper tested and the sides walked off at the break with the score at 0-0.
Couple of minutes into the second half, first chance fell to Airbus and Matt McGinn fired over from distance. With 58 minutes on the clock, the visitors took the lead. They won a free kick and the ball into the box hit the top of Matty Harvey’s head and it fell to Asa Hamilton who fired low past Hughes. A few minutes later, Airbus nearly doubled their lead, when Lewis Buckley’s header hit the post and out to safety.
Town looked the get back into the game, and sub Aaron Pomeiye broke well down the left and his great cross nearly found Steve Lewis
but the keeper was out to gather the ball at Lewis’ feet. Town then fell further behind as Airbus grabbed their second of the afternoon. A ball out to Hamilton saw him thread the ball through to Lewis Buckley who fired home past Hughes.
With 5 minutes remaining, Airbus scored a 3rd goal. Jon Jones conceded a free kick just outside the area and Matt McGinn’s free kick was saved well by Hughes, but Buckley slotted home the follow up. With time running out, Shaun Tuck
ran at the defence and beat 3 challenges but his shot was saved by the keeper before the referee blew for full time.
