Holywell Town 1-1 Penrhyncoch
The Wellmen pick up a point against the Roosters.
The match was switched from Halkyn Road to Bala Town's 3G pitch at Maes Tegid because of the playing surface at Halkyn Road after a couple of days of rain showers.
The match started brightly and Shaun Pearson was forced to punch the ball clear with only a few minutes on the clock from a good cross in by the Penrhyncoch wideman, then Town had a chance up the other end following a good move down the right by Mark Winslade, who saw his low cross into the box beat the defender but Sam Jones narrowly failed to connect with the goal at his mercy.
Lee Davey then volleyed the ball over the bar, then a Sam Jones free kick found the head of Matty Harvey but his header was saved by goalkeeper Leigh Jenkins. Eldan Davies then fired wide before a Winslade shot flew past Jenkins' post. Pearson was then called into action, saving well from Liam Lewis, the Lewis in the next move should have done better but saw his shot saved again by Pearson. Steve Thomas then had a shot blocked and Winslade's follow up flew over the bar. Shortly afterwards, the visitors were ahead through Nashawn Blake, who slotted the ball under Pearson to give the visitors a half time lead. Lee Davey's cross come shot was tipped over the bar in the final few minutes of the half and from the resulting corner, Matty Harvey's header was brilliantly saved by Jenkins but the referee had blown for a foul by Harvey on the defender.
Town needed an early goal in the second half to get back into the game, and it came a couple of minutes into the half through Sam Jones as his looping header beat the despairing dive of Jenkins in the Penrhyncoch goal. The goal lifted the Wellmen, and shortly afterwards, Winslade had a shot deflected for a corner.
Liam Lewis then saw his header come off the crossbar, then Matthew Kendrick saw his powerful header from a corner smash against the crossbar and back out into play. Lee Davey saw his header saved from a good Paul Williams cross then a good move saw Davey turn provider as his low cross into the penalty box was cleared for a corner. Paul Williams then shot over and sub Shaun Tuck then went on a run into the box and his shot was blocked. Captain Steve Thomas had a shot blocked by the Penrhyncoch defender then the visitors could have taken the points with a late winner, but sub Hari Harwood's shot blazed well wide of the post with only Pearson to beat.
The referee blew for full time and the points were shared. It was a tough afternoon for the Wellmen and a point a piece was probably a fair reflection of the game.
