Below par Town fall to defeat at Caernarfon Town.

The Wellmen started strongly and the first chance of the afternoon fell to Phil Lloyd, but his shot on the turn across face of goal went wide of the post, then a few minutes later, Paul Williams had a shot blocked for a corner. The next attack saw Caernarfon Town take the lead, with their first effort on goal. A cross in from the right by Danny Brookwell beat the defence and the onrushing Darren Thomas was on hand to steer the ball home past John Rushton.

With 19 minutes on the clock, the home side scored their second, again through Darren Thomas. A defence splitting pass from midfield saw Thomas chase after the ball and he was able to steer it past the oncoming Rushton and the ball nestled into the bottom corner of Rushton's goal. Thomas completed his hat trick on 26 minutes, as his long range effort came back off Rushton's left hand post and into the net. Town were stumped, and things got worse with half hour on the clock as the Canaries added a 4th through Danny Brookwell, whos shot from outside the area flew into the top corner.

Town tried to play football, but the Caernarfon defence stood firm and Town were limited only to a couple of half chances within shooting distance. John Rushton saved well with his feet from Jamie Breese and the players went off the pitch for their half time break with the home side in complete control and leading 4-0.

The Wellmen had a mountain to climb second half to get anything out of the game, and that task was made worse on 51 minutes as Jamie Breese burst through the defence and fired home into the bottom corner to make it 5-0 to Caernarfon Town. Sub Ryan Davidson had a shot saved by the goalkeeper, before sub Lee Fowler shot inches wide for Caernarfon Town.

The Wellmen won a free kick on 78 minutes, about 35 yards from goal, and Matty Hurdman stood to take the kick and the ball flew into the net via the crossbar to make it 5-1 for a great goal. The goal lifted the Wellmen who were playing good football, and it was rewarded on 83 minutes, as a great through ball found Phil Lloyd who slotted the ball home into the bottom corner. Lloyd could have made it 5-3 a minute later but his effort fell inches past the post.

The Wellmen kept pressing looking for another goal, but any hopes of a comeback were dashed in the final few minutes as Caernarfon Town grabbed a 6th through Kevin Roberts. It was a deserved victory for the home side and Town will look to bounce back next week away to Llanfair United.
