Holywell Town pick up a point against Caersws.

With the Halkyn Road pitch passing an early pitch inspection, Caersws were the visitors to Halkyn Road. With both sides trying to play football on the heavy surface, chances were few and far between in the opening minutes, Matthew Harvey going close for the Wellmen with a quarter of an hour on the clock. A few minutes later, Caersws' Sion Evans had an effort fly past John Rushton's left hand post.
Shortly afterwards, a good run down the right by Paul Williams saw him carve open a gap in the Caersws defence, and his cross into the penalty area was only just a little overhit for the oncoming Phil Lloyd to connect as any touch would have seen the ball go into the net.

A few minutes later, Caersws went up the other end of the pitch and after a good run by Iwan Lewis saw him cross the ball to Sion Evans, but he blazed the ball over with only Rushton to beat. Gareth Sudlow then headed over from a Steve Thomas corner before a great move by Holywell involving Phil Lloyd and Paul Williams, where Lloyd thread the ball through to Williams, and from a tight angle, his shot flew across the goal and clipped the far post before going out for a goal kick. It was all Holywell now, as they piled on the pressure on the visitors goal. Graeme Williams saw an effort saved by Callum Hawthorn before Caersws striker Mark Griffiths had a shot saved by Rushton.

With the clock entering the final 5 minutes of the half, the visitors took the lead. The Wellmen defence failed to clear a cross into the box, and the ball fell to Captain Mark Griffiths, who slotted the ball past Rushton to give the visitors the lead.

The sides came out for the second half and Town looked to make an immediate response, and it very nearly came as Paul Williams found himself in a one on one situation with the goalkeeper, but his shot was blocked by Hawthorn, much to the annoyance of the Wellmen supporters. Next chance fell to Graeme Williams, but his looping header back toward the goal fell inches over the crossbar with the keeper beaten. Town kept battling away looking for the equaliser, and in a good move down the right saw Paul Williams run into the box and unleashed a shot into the side netting, which many in the ground had thought had gone in!.

With Caersws still hanging onto their slim lead, they were still dangerous and looking for the killer 2nd goal. Caersws' Mike Collister headed over before Rushton saved an effort off Sion Evans. Sub Sam Jones then picked up the ball and went on a good run and beat 2 caersws defenders, but opted to pass to Paul Williams on the right instead of shooting at the target. With the game entering the final 10 minutes, Town looked for the equaliser, and after dominating the majority of the second half, that goal came on 80 minutes through Graeme Williams. Paul Williams picked up the ball on the right and cut inside before crossing to the unmarked Williams in the box, who controlled the ball before firing low past Hawthorn to give the home side a deserved equaliser.

Town looked for the winner, and Brady McGilloway went on a great run, beating a couple of defenders but his shot was blocked, before Captain Steve Thomas had a long range effort hit the post and out for a goal kick. As the game entered injury time, Thomas again had an effort fly inches over of Hawthorn's cross bar. The visitors were not sitting back with Caersws' Griffiths' shot was easily saved by Rushton, before a free kick from a dangerous position saw Collister's free kick saved again by Rushton.

As the referee blew for full time, the Wellmen walked off the pitch knowing that they had played well, and confidence slowly creeping back into the lads ahead of next weekend's tough game at Denbigh Town.
