The Wellmen return with a point after a goalless draw at Guilsfield

Guilsfield were the first out of the blocks winning a corner in the first couple of minutes but the Wellmen dealt with the threat. Town soon got into their stride and new signing Connor Tagoe passed the ball off to Lee Healey, and he turned and laid the ball off to Steve Thomas but his shot went inches wide.

Guilsfield’s Andy Ford then had a shot saved by John Rushton, and from the resulting corner, the Guilsfield striker’s effort came back out off a post and cleared to safety by Matty Harvey. Shaun Tuck then tried to make room for himself in the box to shoot but the defender didn’t give him a chance before another Guilsfield attack saw Adam Jenkins shoot but his effort was saved by Rushton.
With just over half an hour played, Town broke clear down the left, and Brady McGilloway thread the ball through for Shaun Tuck who ran on towards the advancing keeper Lee Andrew, and as Tuck dragged the ball past the keeper, Andrew fell to the floor and spread his body and handled the ball, but the referee and his assistant who were nearby waved play on, much to the disappointment of the Holywell players.

On the stroke of half time, Tagoe had a header cleared by the near post and as the referee blew for the interval, the scores remained goalless and all still to play for in the second half.

The second half was a few minutes old when Town came close to breaking the deadlock. A cross over from the right saw Tuck get his head to the ball, and his powerful header saw the ball rattle the cross bar and come back out to safety. Tuck was involved in Town’s next attack but this time his header flew over the bar.

Rushton made two saves to deny the hosts before the Wellmen made a double substitution as Paul Williams replaced Connor Tagoe, and Graeme Williams replaced Lee Healey. A great through ball by Ryan Davidson saw Graeme Williams chase the ball goalwards but the assistant raised her flag to indicate he was in an offside position. A few minutes later, a great ball over the top saw Tuck chase, but up went the flag and he was offside, before Tuck again was deemed to be offside despite being onside and behind the last defender as the ball was played.

Rushton then made a great flying save to deny Jack Richards and as the game reached the 90 minute mark, Tuck was put in again an as he ran into the box, he was clipped by the defender and fell to the ground, but the referee adjudged him to have dived and booked Tuck. With time running out, Sub Sam Jones ran down the left before laying the ball to Paul Williams, but his cross was punched clear by Andrew with Tuck and Davidson at the far post ready to tap the ball home. The last chance of the match fell to Guilsfield’s Adam Jenkins but his free kick from a dangerous position went through everyone’s legs and luckily for Town, flew inches wide of Rushton’s post.

It was an entertaining 0-0 draw and both teams deserved a point. The point see’s the Wellmen move to 4th in the Huws Gray Alliance League.
