The Wellmen beat local rivals Denbigh Town in front of a good Halkyn Road crowd.

The game started brightly for the Wellmen and from the off they took the game to Denbigh Town. Town had already had a couple of good chances when Lee Healey scored the opener on his home debut around the 10 minute mark, firing home past Denbigh Town keeper Rhys Crowther. Sam Jones then had a good effort saved after being on 1 on 1 with the keeper, then Healey had a goal bound effort cleared after the keeper came out and lost the ball with Healey close by to pick up the loose ball before lobbing it goalwards.

Steve Thomas then had a shot go wide before Paul Williams missed a glorious chance to make it 2-0, his shot blocked by the lunge of the Denbigh Town defender after Graeme Williams' initial shot came back out off the post and fell kindly to Williams. Sam Jones then headed wide after being left unmarked at the far post from a Steve Thomas corner. Denbigh Town then had a rare effort on goal, Alan Bull had a shot go wide after goalkeeper Jay Rushton had dropped the ball at his feet before the Wellmen had a good shout for a penalty turned down after Sam Jones was pushed inside the area.

Jones then had a free kick go inches wide before Jones had the ball in the net from Paul Williams low cross, but the linesman had his flag up for offside, much to the annoyance of the Wellmen supporters. Healey turned provider, his low cross met by Paul D Williams but his fierce effort went wide of Crowther's post. On the stroke of half time, Denbigh's Corey Scarisbrick had a low shot saved well by Rushton to make the scores 1-0 to the Wellmen at the interval.

The second half started with Healey once again in the thick of the action, and his break down the left saw him break into the area, and his shot from a difficult angle was parried away by the keeper for a corner. A few minutes later, an excellent defence splitting pass by Paul D Williams saw Healey away again on goal, but Crowther once again saved from Town's new signing. Denbigh's Corey Scarisbrick then broke through the Town defence down the right, but his cross was blocked by Steve Thomas and the ball was cleared to safety. A dangerous inswinging Free Kick by Healey into the Denbigh Town penalty area beat everyone when all it needed was a touch to end up in the net and fell inches wide of the post.

Denbigh Town then went close as substitute Phil Molyneux headed towards goal from a corner, only for Steve Thomas to clear off the line with Rushton beaten then a few minutes later, Paul Williams was brought down by Kyle Scarisbrick, and Healey's free kick was blocked by the Denbigh wall and the ball was cleared. The decisive second goal came on 75 minutes, a great run down the right wing by Ross Ankers saw him thread the ball through to Sam Jones, and he was brought down by Steve Wright inside the penalty area and the referee pointed to the spot. Up stepped Healey to score his 2nd goal of the evening to make it 2-0 for the Wellmen.

Denbigh Town were given a lifeline on 85 minutes when Corey Scarisbrick fired home from a tight angle to make it 2-1. The goal spurred the Visitors to life, and with time ticking away, Anthony Williams had an effort go wide of Rushton's post, before more pressure on the Wellmen goal saw Alan Bull fire over the crossbar. The last action of the match saw Denbigh Town win a corner, and they pushed everyone up except for the keeper hoping to get a last gasp equaliser, but the Wellmen were able to clear the ball to safety as the referee blew for full time.

It was a great win for the Wellmen and Denbigh Town can count themselves lucky it wasn't by a greater margin. The Wellmen now focus on Saturday's trip to Porthmadog, looking to make it another win on the road for the season.
