The Wellmen's unbeaten start to the season ends with defeat to the League leaders.

The Wellmen welcomed Prestatyn Town to Halkyn Road, looking to build on Wednesday night's win over Flint Town United. The Seasiders boasted a 100% record coming into the match so the Wellmen know it would be a tough game ahead of them.

The atrocious weather for hours before the game made the surface fast and both teams settled into the fast game and the large crowd was treated to end to end football. The best chance of the opening period fell to the visitors as Jordan Davies saw his effort well saved by Mike Platt in the Wellmen's goal. The visitors were creating the better chances, Davies again shooting at goal but a slight deflection off Mathew Harvey took the sting out of the ball and Mike Platt was able to gather the ball with ease.

The home side were also beginning to create chances. Ryan Davidson was fouled and from the resulting free kick, Steve Thomas whipped in a great ball into the box towards Phil Lloyd but Carl Jones in the Prestatyn goal gathered the ball in the air to thwart out the attack. Town were looking dangerous and Mark Bridge was through and miss kicked the ball and it fell to Brady McGilloway, who cut inside and crossed the ball towards Lloyd but the ball was blocked and the defence cleared to safety. With a couple of minutes remaining, the Wellmen won a penalty. A free kick into the box was only half cleared and fell to Phil Lloyd, who was brought down by a Prestatyn defender and the referee pointed to the spot. Ryan Davidson stepped up to take the spot kick and he shot to his right but the keeper guessed the right way and was down low to get a hand to the ball to push it onto the post and the ball came out to safety.

With that save, the score remained goaless at the break, and with the rain easing off for the second half, the large crowd at Halkyn Road hoped that the second half would be just as entertaining as the first. A few minutes into the half, the visitors were awarded a penalty for an almost identical challenge to that in the first half for Town's penalty, by Gareth Sudlow on Prestatyn's James Stead. Jordan Davies stepped up to take it and fired the ball into the bottom right hand corner to give the visitors the lead.

Manager John Haseldin brought on Luke Wandless and Sam Jones to replace Phil Lloyd and Ryan Davidson, and Wandless nearly made and immediate impact on the game as he burst through the Prestatyn defence, beating a couple of players before the referee blew for a foul on a Prestatyn defender by Wandless. With just over an hour played, Prestatyn's Tom Kemp had a shot saved by Platt for a corner, and from the resulting corner, Prestatyn's Jack Lewis rose well to the ball but headed over the cross bar. THe goal gave the visitors the impetus, and Jordan Davies cut inside and wrong footed Matthew Harvey before crossing the ball into the box but Platt was able to gather. Prestatyn sub Michael Parker volleyed over Platt's goal before the Wellmen had a chance as Lee Emberton won the ball in defence and passed to Tony Roebuck, but his thorugh ball was slightly too hard for Mark Bridge to chase.

Paul Williams came on to replace Mark Bridge and a few minutes later, a good move by the Wellmen saw Paul D Williams feed the ball out to Paul Williams who's first time cross was a little too hard for the oncoming Luke Wandless. Prestatyn's Ben Maher then had a shot deflected out for a corner, then with the last attack of the game, a slip by Mike Platt saw Maher chase the ball, but Platt was able to recover and pick up the ball before the Prestatyn attacker got his shot in.

The referee blew for full time and the Wellmen's unbeaten run came to an end, and the result saw the Seasiders remain top of the Huws Gray Alliance with their 100% record still intact.
