The Wellmen fall to defeat against the Gulls.

After the midweek draw at home to Porthmadog, The Wellmen travelled to Guilsfield looking for 3 points to leap frog over the home side in the Huws Gray League. The game kicked off and Connor Littler had a great chance to give the Wellmen a dream start after only 20 seconds. Paul D Williams fed the ball through the Guilsfield defence and Connor Littler ran on to pick the ball up, with only the advancing keeper to beat, his chip flew past the post for a goal kick.

A few minutes later, more pressure on the home side’s defence saw Littler run on and shoot from a tight angle and his shot was deflected for a corner. Steve Thomas’ corner kick was punched out for another corner by keeper Joe Walker with Dafydd Griffith waiting to pounce at the ball. After 10 minutes, Tom Rowland put over a great crossfield pass to Brady McGilloway and his run on goal saw his shot saved well by Walker

Tom Rowland lost the ball in midfield and this gave Guilsfield their first real chance, a the ball was crossed to Aaron Edwards, who’s turn and shot from the edge of the box was easily saved by Mike Platt. Rowlands then saw that keeper Walker was off his line and he attempted a cheeky lob and the ball fell just over the bar. Adam Jenkins then cut inside after holding the ball up well but his shot didnt’ trouble Platt in goal. The home side were enjoying the possession and they won another corner, and from Adam Jenkins’ corner kick, Danny Collinshad a glancing header which went just wide of Platt’s post.

The game was end to end stuff by now, and Brady McGilloway got a good save out of Walker, shooting from a Tom Rowland pass crossfield, before Adam Jenkins had a shot which clipped Mike Platt’s post on its way out. Guilsfield then had a good opportunity to take the lead as Jake Cook broke through, beat Steve Thomas before shooting low with only Platt to beat, but the Wellmen’s number one was down well to save to keep the score at 0-0.

With 45 minutes on the clock, Guilsfield took the lead with virtually the last kick of the half. Callum Bromley made a run down the right, his back heel found Adam Jenkins, and his low shot went past Platt and into the net. Town knew they had to get the goal out of their system and open up the 2nd half looking for the equaliser.

Town started the 2nd half well, but after a few minutes of the half, they found themselves 2 up after unfortunately, Dafydd Griffith put the ball into his own net. A cross from the left seemed to hit Dafydd’ leg and deflected into the net, leaving Platt beaten. Adam Jenkins then had an effort on the Wellmen’s goal, but his snapshot was blocked, before Connor Littler’s header was saved by Walker.

Sub Phil Lloyd then beat his marker and ran towards goal and from close to the byline, his cross found Littler but his shot was cleared by the home defence. Minutes later, Lloyd was through on goal and his shot was saved well by Walker, and the rebound fell to Paul D Williams but his shot was blocked by the home defender and Brady McGilloway picked up the loose ball and lay it of for tony Roebuck but his shot was deflected for a corner.

Jake Cook found himself in space for Guilsfield but blazed his shot over, then Phil Lloyd found himself through on goal after beating his marker, and was in a 1 on 1 situation with the keeper, and his shot was easily saved by Walker. Holywell Town were then denied a blatant penalty, as Guilsfield’s Chris Catherall tried to control the ball inside the area, but the ball bounced from his boot and hit his hand, but neither the referee or linesman who were both nearby deemed it had.

With time running out, Town still pressed for a goal, and with a couple of minutes remaining of the 90, Town’s McGilloway crossed the ball to Graeme Williams, who controlled it and on the turn, tried to guide the ball into the far corner of the net, but Walker acrobatically saved the ball well. With the game deep into injury time, The home side got a 3rd goal. Danny Collins long effort from past the halfway line seeing Mike Platt off his line saw the ball fell over Platt and into the net.

The referee blew for full time and it was Guilsfield who took the points.
