The Wellmen held at home in final home game of the season.

Following the defeat on Saturday to Caersws, the Wellmen looked to get back to winning ways against Porthmadog at Halkyn Road.
Played on a bitterly cold night, both sides started strongly, and Porthmadog had the first shot on target as Julian Williams had a shot gathered by Mike Platt. Shortly afterwards, Porthmadog should have taken the lead. Jamie McDaid found himself through on goal, but his shot was saved well by Mike Platt, and with the ball coming back into the area, Julian Williams tried to steer the ball into the goal but the ball fell the wrong side of the post.

That was a let off for the Wellmen, and fortunately, the home side took the lead shortly afterwards. A great run from Brady McGilloway, who picked up the ball deep inside his own half, ran forward and skipped the challenges of the Port defence. He looked up and saw Tom Rowlands to his right and laid the ball off to him, Rowlands controlling the ball before firing a shot at goal which flew into the net, despite Richard Harvey getting a hand to the ball.

With the minutes ticking by in the first half, the visitors had an effort deflected out for a corner after sub Asa Hamilton fired the ball in on goal, the corner came to nothing and the sides went in at the break a goal apiece.

The second half was only a couple of minutes old when Porthmadog grabbed eh equaliser. A good cross in from the left saw the ball fall to Josh Davies, who’s header hit the back of the net despite Mike Platt getting a touch to it. The goal gave the visitors confidence and Julian Williams had a shot saved well by Mike Platt as the visitors looked to take the lead.

Sub Graeme Williams nearly made an instant impact on the game, his pin point through ball found Tom Rowlands, who’s cross goalwards towards Phil Lloyd and Connor Littler was blocked for a corner. Brady McGilloway hen had a run on goal and his shot was blocked for a corner, and from ther resulting corner, Dafydd Griffith rose up well to get his head on the ball and head it goalwards, with a Porth defender having to clear it off the line at the far post. As the game entered the final 10 minutes, Tom Rowlands broke through the middle and beat the challenge of 2 defenders, before being brought down by Ceri Jones just outside the area. Jones got away with a talking to from the match referee, much to the annoyance of the Wellmen supporters who warranted it to be at least a booking, and from the Resulting free kick, Rowlands watched his kick saved by Harvey in the Porthmadog goal.

Roberts Evans then had a shot go high over the crossbar before John Leonard brought down a Porthmadog player on the edge of the box, Gruff Williams stood to take the free kick, but his kick was high and wide and didn’t pose a threat to the Wellmen rear guard. The final piece of the match saw Steve Thomas burst forward, before crossing to Brady McGilloway, he ran forward before crossing back into the danger area, but the Port defender managed to clear for a corner, which got cleared to safety by the Portmadog defence.
The Referee blew for full time and both sides shared the spoils after a 1-1 draw.
