The Wellmen pick up 3 points against the Seasiders.

Prestatyn Town 0-1 Holywell Town

The Wellmen travelled to Bastion Gardens looking for three points and revenge for the defeat earlier in the season, and despite only playing twice so far this year, the Wellmen dug deep and picked up maximum points.

The game soon settled with both teams trying to take hold of midfield, and the first real chance fell to the home side with around a quarter of an hour on the clock. Mike Platt did really well to save from Prestatyn’s Alex Jones, and was on hand again to save the follow up from close range. A little later, Prestatyn again went close, with Platt again saving well at the feet of Joe Newell. Platt injured himself during that save and after treatment, continued in goal but was clearly in pain.

Town had an effort saved with five minutes remaining of the half as Tony Roebuck had a fierce drive save by Mike Jones in the Prestatyn goal, and as the referee blew for half time, the sides went into the break with the score remained at 0-0.

The second half begun and once again, Mike Platt saved well off a shot by Prestatyn’s Niall Hill before the Wellmen had their best spell of pressure on the home side’s goal. Connor Littler found himself in space and his cross was met by Graeme Wiliams but his shot was defelcted out for a corner. From the resulting corner, the ball found Dafydd Griffith on the edge of the goal area but his overhaead kick was saved by Jones in Prestatyn’s goal.

Shortly afterwards, the Wellmen took the lead. Good spell of pressure saw the ball out to Connor Littler, who turned and crossed the ball into the box and Graeme Williams was on hand to fire the ball home past Jones to give the Wellmen the lead. The large number of Wellmen supporters in the crowd cheered for the goal.

Midway through the half, the home side went close as a cross goal shot flew inches past Platt’s left hand post. Prestatyn looked for the equaliser and once again, Platt saved well from Jordan Davies, and captain Steve Thomas was on hand to clear the ball away from the danger area. Alex Jones then had a shot go high and wide of Platt’s goal before Jones was lucky not to sent for an early bath, as he punched Steve Thomas, but the referee only bradished both with a yellow card.

The home side then looked for the equaliser but time was running out for the Seasiders as Graeme Williams was taken off to a great round of applause by the Holywell faithfull. The referee then blew the whistle to mark the end of the game, and despite the match played in atrocious windy condition, the Wellmen played well and stuck at it and collected the three points which sees them in 3rd place in the Huws Gray Alliance.
