Wellmen produce a five star show to win their final home game of 2015.

Holywell Town 5-2 Conwy Borough

The Wellmen welcomed the Musselmen to Halkyn Road, and it was a brilliant performance by the lads to round off our home matches at Halkyn Road for 2015.

The game started brilliantly for the Wellmen with young Brady McGilloway scoring his first goal for the club, slotting home past Louie Mackin after being put through on goal. The players celebrated with Brady but the celebrations were shortlived as on 10 minutes, Conwy equalised through Luke Robinson. The goal gave the visitors the confidence to look for another and they put a lot of pressure on the Wellmen back line but they coped well and, after soaking up the pressure for a short while, the Wellmen then took the lead again.

A great ball up to Phil Lloyd saw him run into the box and crossed the ball over to the centre, Connor Littler was there to head the ball goalwards but the keeper pulled off a great save which saw the ball fall to Tony Roebuck. His shot was saved again by the keeper but the ball fell to Littler who tapped the ball home. Yet again, Conwy pegged both sides back as Andreas Alverado equalised on 29 minutes, shooting the ball into the net via a ricochet off Mike Platt’s leg.

With a couple of minutes left of the first half, Town took a deserved lead, and again it was Connor Littler who was on the score sheet. Picking the ball up, Littler unleashed a great shot from fully 30 yards which flew into the top corner with Mackin well beaten.
The second half started with Town putting pressure on Conwy’s goal, and Connor Littler rose well to head a Steve Thomas corner but his goalbound effort was blocked on the line by a Conwy defender. A few iunutes later however Town increased their lead. The Wellmen won a corner and the ball was played in towards the far post where Tom McElmeel headed the ball back towards the centre and Jonathon Jones was there to head home via a Conwy defender to claim his first goal in a Holywell shirt.

Phil Lloyd was then broke through and his cross was only inches away from Littler to add to his goal tally before Conwy’s Andrew Brown’s free kick flew over Mike Platt’s crossbar. With 70 minutes on the clock, Littler grabbed his 3rd goal of the afternoon, running and seeing the keeper off his line, he lobbed the keeper from over 25 yards to claim his first hat trick in a Wellmen shirt.
Sub Graeme Williams then was tripped in the box and the referee pointed to the spot, and up stepped Tom McElmeel but he watched in horror as his spot kick flew over Mackin’s bar. Phi Lloyd then attempted a deft chip over the keeper seeing him off his line but it fell the wrong side of the post. The referee then blew for full time shortly afterwards and despite the awful wet conditions, Town played really well and fully deserved the points ahead of the festive fixture at Flint Town United.
