The Wellmen win on the Road at Caersws to stay in the top 3 of the league.

Caersws 0-2 Holywell Town

The Wellmen made the long trip to mid Wales and returned with all 3 points after a 2-0 victory over the Bluebirds.
The match started brightly for both team in the warm autumn sunshine, and Town close on 13 miuntes as a greast run by Connor Littler saw him cross the ball towards Steve Lewis but his touch saw the ball go wide of Alex Ramsay’s post. The home side had the next chance as Elliot Jones found himself through on goal but Mike Platt pulled off a great save to prevent him giving the home side the lead.

Town very nearly took the lead on 20 minutes, as a Peter Hoy free kick into the box saw Connor Littler having a stunning overhead kick towards goal hit the cross bar, much to the delight of the Caersws rearguard who were well beaten. With a little over the half hour mark played on the clock, Caersws should have taken the lead as Elliott Jones found himself through on goal with only Mike Platt to beat, but Platt pulled off a stunning save to keep the scores at 0-0. With a minute or so on the clock, Steve Lewis was through on goal, but his shot was saved by the legs of Ramsay.

The second half started and the first real chances fell to the home side, Elliott Jones heading over from a corner, before Scott Williams saw his looping header go inches over Platt’s crossbar. Town’s first chance fell on the hour mark, Graeme Williams breaking through but he lay the ball off towards Littler and Lewis instead of shooting and the ball was cleared for a throw in. From the resulting Hoy throw in, Littler headed the ball goalwards but it rebounded back off the post.

With 67 minutes on the clock, Town took the lead. A good ball in by Hoy saw Tom McElmeel rise for the ball, under the challenge of the Caersws Keeper and defender, but McElmeel got the important touch which saw his flick on nestle into the net to give the Wellmen the lead. A few minutes later it was 2-0, as the ball found Graeme Williams in space in the Caersws penalty area, he turned and controlled the ball well before firing home to double the Wellmen’s lead.

With a few minutes remaining, Mike Platt was forced to do a great save after a good effort by Dale Evans before the host teams tried a spectacular lob after Platt had come out of his area to head the ball away, but Jones’ lob was wide and the ball was eventually cleared by Steve Thomas.

The referee blew for full time, and the Wellmen continued their excellent run of form, and remained 3rd in the Cymru Alliance League, and the lads are now all looking forward to the midweek tie against TNS in the Word Cup.
