The Wellmen travelled to the Island to face bottom side Llanfairpwll and returned with all 3 points against the team who have yet to pick up a point a

Played in blustery conditions, the match kicked off and the first chance fell to the visitors, as a Paul Williams fell to Graham Boylan near the far post but he couldn’t control his header and it flew over the bar. Town then took the lead on 12 minutes through Luke Tyson, who was put through by a great pass by Boylan and his shot beat the keeper and ended up in the bottom corner. Williams was then involved in the next attach as his pass through to Phil Lloyd to chase saw Lloyd shoot but the Llanfair keeper Connor Hughes saved well.

The hosts then had half a chance as Sion Owen took a free kick which he blazed over from a dangerous position after Dafydd Griffith had fouled a Llanfairpwll attacker. A few minutes later however, Town had doubled their lead. Phil Lloyd beat the offside trap and he ran down the line before crossing the ball to the unmarked Luke Tyson on the far post to head home to put Town2 up.

Just after the half hour mark, Town put the game to bed with a third. Lloyd again broke down the wing and his pass to Paul Williams who was just inside the penalty area, saw Williams turn and shot and the ball went into the bottom corner of the net. On the stroke of half time, Town should have made it four as the impressive Lloyd broke through the defence, and he rounded the advancing keeper but the ball took a nasty bobble and Lloyd skied the ball with the open goal at his mercy so the half time score remained 3-0.

The second half begun like the first had ended with Town attacking the goal. Town won a corner and Paul Williams’ corner beat everyone and was cleared off the line before Town won another corner a few seconds later. Williams again took the corner and the ball was cleared as far as Lloyd on the right wing, and his low cross back into the penalty area saw Boylan get on the end of it to poke the ball home.

Town looked to add to their tally and Lloyd went close on 50 minutes, shooting with the outside of his boot and Hughes dived well to his right to palm the ball away. Matty Roberts then had a shot which flew inches over the bar before Tony Roebuck made it 5-0 with the goal of the game. The ball came back out to Roebuck, who was stood around 40 yards out and his shot flew straight into the top corner with Hughes well beaten and surely, the goal is a serious contender for this season’s goal of the season award.

The crowd were still talking about Roebuck’s screamer when Lloyd finally got himself deservedly so on the score sheet. He broke clear down the right and beat the challenge of the defender, before unleashing a fierce shot towards goal and the ball beat the despairing dive of Hughes to nestle in the bottom corner.

The game was won and despite a couple of chances falling to both teams, no further goals were scored and Town picked up an important 3 points in their quest for promotion up to the Cymru Alliance League. Despite the testing conditions, Town played some good football and fully deserved the win.
