Town dig deep to claim all three points after a great game at Pwllheli

Pwllheli 3-5 Holywell Town

Holywell Town travelled to Pwllheli looking for 3 points after 5 weeks of cup football and knew it would be tough at inform Pwllheli who sat in 3rd place before kick off.

The first real chance of the match fell to Sam Jones on 10 minutes with the Pwllheli keeper having to turn Jones’ 30 yard effort out for a corner. Shortly afterwards, Town took the lead through Dafydd Griffith who headed home from a Sam Jones corner. Town were then awarded a penalty after Phil Lloyd had been brought down by a Pwllheli defender and Captain Sam Jones fired home the spot kick to give Town a 2-0 lead.

Pwllheli pulled one back through Mark Bridge to make it 2-1 before Luke Tyson stung the keepers hands with a great shot. The game was end to end stuff and Pwllheli equalised through Tom Mahoney after his shot was deflected past Mike Platt in the Holywell goal. As the game neared Half Time, Town took the lead again thorugh Luke Tyson and on the stroke of half time, Pwllheli equalised again through a Dylan Shaw Jones header.

The second half begun and chances were few and far between for both sides and midway through the half, good play from Sam Jones saw the keeper having to turn away his shot for a corner after a great bit of skill from the Holywell captain. From the resulting corner, Town regained the lead as Phil Lloyd turned the ball in at the far post from a Matty Roberts corner.

Pwllheli were reduced to 10 men as their centre back was shown the red card by referee Kelvin Lewis and shortly afterwards, Town made sure of the points as Sam Jones fired home his second of the game to make the score 5-3 to the Wellmen with a few minutes remaining.

The game ended 5-3 in the Wellmen’s favour and everyone at the game was treated to a great game of football between both sides. Town dug deep to get the win today and the win meant that Holywell have now made it 20 straight wins since the opening day win at Gwalchmai which is a marvellous achievement. Great win and we now look forward to welcoming Llanrug United to Halkyn Road next Saturday for the last game of 2014.
