Town maintain their 100% record at the top of the League.

Holywell Town 3-1 Llanberis

The Wellmen welcomed the Darrans to Halkyn Road looking to maintain their 100% record at the top of the Welsh Alliance League.
The first real chance fell to Phil Lloyd on 13 minutes but his header from a great Paul Williams cross went over Lewis Williams’ crossbar. A few minutes later however, Town were ahead. A Sam Jones corner from the right into the penalty area was only partially cleard and Matty Harvey’s header was well saved by Williams’ but the ball fell kindly to Lloyd who struck the ball home. On the half hour mark, Lloyd again thought he had doubled Town’s lead but his goal was ruled offside and didn’t count.

Disaster struck for the Wellmen on the stroke of half time as LLanberis equalised. The ball over the top was not cleared and the visitors Aled Jones managed to hook the ball over his shoulders and over the onrushing Michael Platt to make the scores all even on the stroke of Half Time.

The lads went off the pitch and knew they had to up their game in the second half to seal the win, and approximately 45 seconds had elapsed of the half until Paul Williams put Town ahead for the second time of the afternoon. Steve Thomas ran down the left and pulled the ball across the goal towards Paul Williams who slotted home to round off a great move by the Wellmen. The goal spurred the Wellmen on and a couple of minutes later, Williams made a great save in the Llanberis goal to deny Lloyd after a great cross in by Sam Jones.

Llanberis then won a free kick on the edge of the box and Gethin Maxwell’s effort went over Platt’s crossbar and Town remained in the lead. Sam Jones then skipped past the challenge of the right back and ran in on goal, before pulling the ball back to Phil Lloyd who’s shot went over the bar after his first touch had let him down. Llanberis then broke quickly and Platt saved well from Maxwell but the loose ball was cleared by Dafydd Griffith who slid to clear the ball ahead of David Jones who was running in on goal. David Jones then had an effort easily saved by Platt before Dylan Parry’s effort sailed over the crossbar.

Town sealed the win a few minues after the hour mark. The Llanberis defender attempted to pass the ball back to the keeper but it was slightly over hit and caused the keeper to punch the ball clear towards the corner from Lloyd, but Lloyd didn’t give up and managed to keep the ball in. With the keeper in no mans land, Lloyd looked up and saw Sam Jones was screaming for the ball near the penalty spot but Lloyd’s deft chip off the outside of his boot sailed over Williams and nestled into the net to give Town a 3-1 lead.
Tom Mcelmeel then attempted a 1st time curling shot which went wide of the post before Matty Roberts had a free kick brilliantly saved by Lewis Williams. The score remained 3-1 and Town had been made to work hard for the points against one of the toughest teams we have faced this season to date.
