Town score 5 against Llanrug at a damp Eithin Duon this afternoon.

The Wellmen travelled to Llanrug’s Eithin Duon pitch looking for a win to maintain their 100% winning run going and knew it would be tough against a good, organised Llanrug side.

The first chance of the game fell to Steve Thomas who broke well through the middle of the defence, he ran on towards the goal and the oncoming Dylan Roberts narrowed the angle enough for Steve to fire his shot inches wide of the far post. A few minutes later, Kevin Lloyd saw that Town keeper Mike Platt was off his line and his chip nearly embarrassed the keeper but fortunate for Town, it fell over the crossbar and not under it.

With a quarter of an hour gone, the best chance of the match so far fell to Llanrug. The hosts saw a great cross go across the goal area and the ball was only just partly cleared, and the ball fell to Matthew Phillips and his fierce shot was parried away by Platt for a Llanrug Corner. A few minutes later, it was Town’s Matthew Harvey who nearly broke the deadlock as his header from a Sam Jones free kick went inches past the post. A short while later, another good free kick into the box saw Harvey yet again rising well but the keeper got a save to the ball.

Town took the lead a minute later. Tony Roebuck was brought down by Eifion Williams and up stepped Sam Jones to fire home from the spot to give Town a deserved lead. The goal stirred Town into life and Graeme Williams wasn’t far off doubling the lead a few minutes after the first goal went in. Another good move down the left saw Town cross the ball well by Steve Thomas, and the ball fell to Sam Jones who’s miss kick fell to Tony Roebuck but his goal was deemed off side by the match referee and the result stood. Town were looking for the 2nd goal and Sam Jones was only inches away with a fierce volley from a great cross by Lee Emberton.

Llanrug United started the second half the better side and Dylan Owen had a shot go wide of Platt’s goal. Town soaked up the pressure and a few minutes later, Sam Jones broke free down the left and his cross was only a bit too hard for the on rushing Steve Thomas and Tony Roebuck. Town didn’t have to wait too long for the second goal and it came on 63 minutes, courtesy of a Sam Jones penalty. 5 minutes later, it was game over for Llanrug as sub Phil Lloyd scored after a great run by Jones down the left and his cross went through a packed penalty area and Phil Lloyd was on hand at the far post to tap the ball home.

With around 70 minutes gone on the clock, the game was marred by a supporter who attacked Town’s Sam Jones as he was stood waiting to take a free kick near the perimeter fence around the pitch. Once the situation was calmed down, The Referee took both sides off the field of play as the Llanrug Stewards ejected the Llanrug Supporter out of the ground. A few minutes later, the person had left the area and both teams were back out to complete the game. The break in play did not seem to hamper Town as a few minutes later, Town grabbed their 4th of the afternoon as Phil Lloyd chased a ball into the corner and won the ball off the Llanrug defender and Lloyd’s cross was met by Steve Thomas who hit the ball into the back of the net.

The inform Sam Jones grabbed his hat trick with 10 minutes remaining, he beat a couple of challenges by the home defenders before shooting the ball home into the bottom corner with the keeper well beaten. Llanrug then had a good spell and Matthew Phillps went close shooting from the left before Mike Platt was forced to pull off an excellent save off Llanrug’s Aron Jones.
Phil Lloyd then released Matty Roberts and he ran onto wards the Llanrug goal but as he shot, Roberts got a touch to the ball to force the ball out for a corner and shortly afterwards, the referee blew for full time.

It was an excellent performance and result by the Wellmen and the win saw the lads go top of the Welsh Alliance League on goal difference, replacing Llandudno Junction at the summit. Despite the terrible incident which happened midway through the second half, an incident which has no place in any level of Football, Town kept their composure during this time and by no means will the incident overshadow the remarkable performance by the Wellmen. Town’s next game is at home next Satruday when Llanberis make the trip over to Flintshire for a 2.30pm kick off.
