Town go joint top after another excellent result.

Holywell Town 3-0 Glan Conwy

Holywell Town went into their first home match of the season fresh from beating Gwalchmai 6-0 over the weekend and Town carried on where they left off as the first chance fell to Luke Tyson who’s shot from the right across goal fell just past the post. A few minutes later, Sam Jones watched as his header hit the cross bar and out for a goal kick.

The next chance fell to Glan Conwy who started a great move from the halfway line. The ball fell to Nathan Smith and his shot was blocked by the Town’s rearguard, and the loose ball fell to Tom Patel who watched as Mike Platt saved his shot with his legs to keep the score’s goalless. The score didn’t stay goal less for long as Town took the lead through inform Sam Jones. A ball upfield was flicked on by Phil Lloyd and Jones was clear of the back four and rushed in on goal. The goal keeper came out but Jones did a cheeky chip over him and the ball fell into the back of the net. A great goal and Town were ahead!

Town had a good chance a few minutes later after a great low cross from Sam Jones across the face of goal was just a little to hard for the on rushing Phil Lloyd, who slid desperately to get the important touch to steer the ball into the net but missed it by inches. We good crowd didn’t have to wait too long for another goal as The Wellmen doubled their lead a few minutes later through Phil Lloyd. Steve Thomas cut inside from the left and his cross somehow got to Phil Lloyd in a crowded area and his effort see the ball hit the roof of the net to double Town’s lead.

It was all Holywell by now as Phil Lloyd watched as his effort came back off the crossbar and Sam Jones also had a header which went close. Further chances came and went and the score remained 2-0 at the break and Town walked off to a round of applause by the good crowd watching the game.

The second half was only a few minutes old when Town grabbed their third goal of the evening. The ball came into the box and there was a bit of a goal mouth scramble and the ball fell to Sam Jones at the far post and he tapped the ball home to give Town a 3 goal cushion. The next real chance fell to Phil Lloyd, who’s turn and shot from great ball by Paul Williams go inches wide of the target. On the hour mark, Jones threaded the ball through to Paul Williams and his first time cross found Tom McElmeel but his shot flew inches wide of the post.

Steve Thomas then broke through the Glan Conwy defence and his shot was saved well by the keeper for a corner. Danny Mills in the visitors goal then produced a great save with his legs to thwart Steve Thomas again after Thomas was put through by Sam Jones with a perfectly weighted ball. Town were desperately looking for the 4th goal and sub Josh Robertson’s through ball to Paul Williams saw Williams put in a great cross which caused Glan’s captain Shaun Shannon to head the ball to safety over the bar. Williams then had a goal disallowed by the linesmans flag before Sam Jones, who was looking for his second hatrick in succession saw an effort deflect over for a corner.

The last chance of the night fell to Glan Conwy who won a free kick in a dangerous position but Sub Ash McKinstry saw his great free kick hit the crossbar and out for a goal kick. The referee blew for full time and it was another 3 points for the Wellmen after yet again, a great performance by everybody and the result was enough to send Town joint top of the Welsh Alliance League.
