The Wellmen travelled to Mid Wales to face Caersws in the first round of the JD Welsh Cup.

The game started with both sides creating chances, with the first chance of the afternoon falling to Steve Lewis, but his shot on the turn was inches over the crossbar, then Shaun Tuck was only inches wide of the post with a header. From a corner, Town’s Matty Kendrick had a header blocked and the ball fell to Matty Harvey but his follow up went wide of the target.

The home side were also creating chances but Town's back line were on form and handling anything that the home side threw at them. The home side won a free kick in a dangerous position and Elliott Jones' effort was easily saved by debutant goalkeeper Antoni Sarnowski. Then at the other end, Luke Evans punched the ball clear with Lewis challenging and it fell to Sam Jones, but his lob was wide of the goal and Tuck got a touch on it but was in an offside position. With time running out in the first half, Caersws keeper Luke Evans saved well at the feet of Sam Jones and the score remained goaless at the half time break.

The second half was barely a minute old and keeper Sarnowski pulled off a great reaction save to deny the Caersws forward, then a couple of minutes later, Town had taken the lead, Paul Williams, who was having a great game, thread a great ball through to Steve Lewis, and he ran towards goal before passing to Shaun Tuck, who rounded the keeper and controlled the ball, and despite a defender getting back to try to intercept the ball, Tuck was able to fire the ball into the goal. A few minutes later, the Wellmen doubled their lead.
Sam Jones sent a great ball for Lewis to chase, and he beat the keeper, then skipped passed a challenge by the Caersws defender before slotting the ball home to make it 2-0.

Tony Roebuck made a great goalline clearance from Mark Edmondson's shot, then Elliott Jones fired wide of Sarnowski's goal. Town brought on Joshusa Sheridan nd Josh Maldon for their first apperances of the season and Sheridan nearly increased Town's lead with a great shot but keeper Evans made a great save. Lewis then had a shot blocked before Town won a penalty as Maldon was pushed in the box. Up stepped Sam Jones and his fierce penalty was saved brilliantly by Evans and the score remained 2-0 to Town.

The game entered the final couple of minutes and Caersws grabbed a goal back through Elliott Jones. Disaster struck shortly afterwards with virtually the last action of the game, Caersws grabbed an equaliser to force the game into extra time.

Sheridan, who had settled into the game well, had a shot blocked by the keeper then a minute or so later, Caersws took the lead. A shot was parried by Sarnowski and the ball seemed to be heading to the top corner, but he was able to grab the ball to prevent it crossing the line, and unfortunately, the ball then fell to the floor and Josh Jones was on hand to tap the ball home.
Town looked for the equaliser to force the game into a penalty shoot out, Connor Littler having the ball saved at his feet by Evans, then Sheridan had a shot go wide of the target. Things got worse for Town as Matty Harvey was shown a second yellow card and was sent off by the referee. It wasn't to be and the referee blew for full time and the Wellmen will feel disappointed to lose the game in the manner that they did and to exit the Welsh Cup at the first round.
We would like to wish Caersws all the best for the remainder of the competition.
