The Wellmen fell behind midway through the first half as the FC Nomads striker fired home from the penalty spot after a Matty Harvey foul had given away the penalty kick. Town had a chance to draw level a few minutes later as the Wellmen were awarded a penalty, but Connor Littler's spot kick was brilliantly saved by the FC Nomads keeper. Town had a couple of chances to draw level but the efforts were either saved or went wide of the target, and to make matters worse, the visitors increased their lead in the final few minutes of the half. Matty Kendrick and the FC Nomads attacker both fell to the floor after a heavy tackle but the game was allowed to continue, and the visitors striker ran forward with the ball and was able to slot the ball home past Andy Metcalfe to give the visitors a 2 goal advantage at the break.
The second half saw the Wellmen wanting an early goal to get back into the game, but efforts by Littler and Lee Davey were both saved well by the keeper, and midway through the half, Jack Pennington saw a shot fly inches wide after a great run towards goal.
The Wellmen did pull a goal back deep into the final 10 minutes of the game, a great run down the left by Harvey saw him square the ball off into the centre, and Lee Davey was on hand to slot the ball home.
THe goal lifed the Wellmen and a few minutes later, a great diving header by Davey made the keeper pull off a great save, and with the chance still there, Littler saw his effort blocked before the follow up by Davey saw the keeper produce a great save diving to his right to keep his side in the lead.
A couple of other half chances fell to the Wellmen but were unable to convert any to draw the game level, and as teh referee blew for full time, the visitors left Halkyn Road the winners.
We would like to thank FC Nomads for the game and wish them well for the forthcoming season.
