Town march into next round.

FAW Trophy 3rd Round
Holywell Town 4-0 Nantlle Vale

The Wellmen went into the game looking to progress in the competition against Nantlle Vale from the Welsh Alliance Division 2 League but knew it would be tough given the face they hadn’t lost any league gaemes this season neither.

The match got under way and the visitors were the first to challenge with James Evans and Jac Jones doing well for the visitors but it didn’t take long for the Holywell faithful to wait for a goal as Paul Williams opened the scoring on 13 minutes to settle the Wellmen back into their normal game.

Luke Tyson was the next to go close for the Wellmen, winning the ball well about 30 yards out near to the touchline, Tyson unleashed a hopeful effort which had Neil Perkins in the Vale goal back tracking but luckily for him, the ball smashed into the cross bar and back out to safety. A couple of minutes later however, Town had double d their lead when Jack D’arcy slammed the ball home after a Free kick over by Sam Jones found the head of Tony Roebuck, but his effort was cleared off the line but only as far as Jack Darcy who fired the ball home to give Town a 2-0 lead. Town were now playing football like we knew they are capable of and on 32 minutes, a great move down the right saw Matty Harvey storm forward and his pass to picked up by Tom McElmeel but his first time effort flew over the bar. Tony Roebuck then went inches wide with a cross come shot before Sam Jones had an effort saved by the Perkins in the Vale goal.

After the break, Town looked to increase their lead and Sam Jones went close but his shot was easily saved by the keeper. Roebuck then passed the ball to Paul Williams and his cross towards Sam Jones was palmed away by Perkins before D’arcy nearly got his second of the game but Jones’ corner flew inches past the head of D’arcy and he knew that one touch would have seen the ball nestle in the net.

Nantlle Vale then nearly reduced the deficit but Declyn Williams’ effort was blocked on the line by Graeme Williams after he had rounded Mike Platt in Town’s goal. John Haseldin then replaced Luke Tyson and Haseldin then scored Town’s 3rd heading home a Sam Jones corner on 89 miuntes to put the result to bed before a minute or so later, Paul Williams added Town’s 4th and his second after a great move which gave Town the win against a spirited Nantlle Vale side.

A great win by the Wellmen and the win saw us progress into the next round of the Competition and a step closer to lifting the trophy next May.
