Holywell Town bow out of the Mawddach Challenge cup

Mawddach Cup Round 2
Llandudno Junction 1-0 Holywell Town

Holywell Town fell to a disappointing defeat at Llandudno Junction and bowed out of the Mawddach Challenge Cup. Both teams had a couple of chances early on and during a Holywell attack, the ball broke clear and on the break, Town were punished as Junction broke and scored through Mike Williams. Town went close through Tom Carney and Graeme Williams but Junction held the advantage at half time.

The second half was like the first half with both teams going close and the first chance fell to Joel Hewitt hitting a great volley inches wide. Danny Stanton was called into action a few times and Junction also had a couple of efforts beat Stanton but ended up wide of his goalpost. With Junction getting on top, both Hobson and Hewitt went close again for Junction.

On the other hand, Town also had chances and Marc Gunther saw two effort go wide of the post. Captain Paul Williams tried to raise the team and with time running out, Town were denied by the heroics of Junction keeper Mike Hughes who produced a couple of great saves to keep Junction’s lead in tact and as the referee blew for full time, it was Junction’s name which went into the hat for the next round.

All eyes now turn to Wednesday night’s massive game at Caernarfon Town, and The Wellmen will be looking to bounce back from this disappointing result.
