Holywell Town progressed into the second round of the Welsh Cup after beating Ruthin Town 1-0 at The Memorial Ground in Ruthin.

Both sides went in at the break with the scores tied at 0-0, but the second half started well for the Wellmen with Connor Littler hitting the post and the Ruthin keeper making a good point blank save to deny Littler a few minutes later.

Littler did make the breakthrough on 64 minutes, heading home into the far corner to give Town the lead. Both teams tried for the next goal, and after a spell of Ruthin Town pressure in the dying minutes, the home side were awarded a penalty deep into injury time. The home side's Dan Porter stepped up to take it and Paul Turner made a great save to his left to deny Porter, who then controlled the rebound before shooting over the bar in what turned out to be the last kick of the match.

The Wellmen progressed into the next round as Ruthin Town wondered what could have been if that penalty kick would have gone in!

The Draw for the next round will be made on FAW TV on Monday where the Welsh Premier League sides enter the competition, and details of the draw will be on here on Monday night.

The Reserves welcomed Chirk AAA's to Halkyn Road and it turned out to be a game to forget as the visitors ran out 4-2 winners. Josh Malldon amongst the scorers for Town. The Wellmen also had Connor Hughes, Brady McGilloway and Josh Malldon sent off to cap a miserable day at Halkyn Road.
