The Wellmen are sad to announce that Tony Roebuck has played his last game for the club for the foreseeable future.

It’s a great club with a fantastic committee and great bunch of supporters, I would like to wish them all luck in the years to come.”
- Tony Roebuck
Roebuck, (pictured) along with fellow ex Wellmen Josh Roberts and Rhys Bithell is off travelling around the world, taking in Australia and the Far East amongst others. It will be a great loss to the club to lose Tony who has been a regular in the starting 11 for the Wellmen for a number of years and a firm favourite amongst the supporters at the club.
Making his debut in the 2009/10 season under the guidance of Andy Eriksen, Roebuck’s first match for the Wellmen came on the 5th April 2010 in a home match against Amlwch Town, which the Wellmen won 3-2. Tony then went on to make 3 further appearances between then and the end of the season, playing in games against Llanrug United and neighbours Halkyn United at home and an away derby against Rhydymwyn in one of the last matches of the season.
The following season he came to make his name a regular on the starting line up, making 36 appearances and 3 appearances off the bench. Throughout the season, Tony went on to score 7 goals, his first goal coming in a 3-2 defeat at Holyhead Hotspur on the 23rd October 2010.
As the years went on, Tony went on to score a number of important goals for the Wellmen. Who can forget his screamer on a cold day in February in 2015, when he picked up the ball around 40 yards out from goal and hit an unstoppable shot into the top corner to give the keeper no chance!. The most goals he scored in a season was 9 goals, and he achieved this amount in both the 2011/12 and 2012/13 season. His most appearances in a season also came in the 2012/13 season where Tony made 42 appearances for the season.
Tony played his part in the epic cup runs the Wellmen have been in over the years, and was an instrumental part of the team which saw Holywell Town do the treble in 2014/15 and gain promotion to the Huws Gray Alliance League.
After his last game for the club in the 3-2 defeat at home to Caernarfon Town, Roebuck said, “ My last game for Holywell Town, not the result I wanted to finish on but have some great memories over the years with a brilliant bunch of lads and thanks to Manager John Haseldin for sticking with me, and I’m sure with him and the management team in place at the club that the Wellmen can progress to another level soon.
It’s a great club with a fantastic committee and great bunch of supporters, I would like to wish them all luck in the years to come.”
Manager John Hasledin added after the Caernarfon game, “I’m proud of Buck, he never let me down and a worthy number 8 at the club. Losing Tony is a lot harder than losing today against Caernarfon Town and I would like to wish him all the best for the future on his travels and that there will always be a welcome for him at Halkyn Road when he returns.”
Captain Steve Thomas who has played with Roebuck for many seasons said, “What a player and an even better lad. A huge, irreplaceable loss and will be sorely missed by me and everyone else.”
Chairman Sean Elliott tweeted, “Good Luck on your Travels Buck, enjoy & make every minute count. You’ll be a great loss to the club.”
Our Social Media websites were inundated with posts by players and supporters and all shared the same feelings and thoughts that Buck has been a great servant to the club, gave it his 100% in every game and that he will be sorely missed, and as a football club, we can only echo them sentiments. Good luck Buck on your travels and thanks for everything, hopefully we will see you once again playing in the Red and White of Holywell Town in a few years time!
