Holywell Town reached the final of the Cookson Cup whilst the Reserves on fire at Hawarden Rangers.

The first team welcomed Llandudno Junction to Halkyn Road for the Cookson Cup Semi Final and won 3-1 to book our place in the final as we aim to retain the trophy we won last season.

Town took the lead in the 20th minute as Tony Roebuck headed home after good work by Luke Tyson and Tom McElmeel. The scored remained 1-0 to the Wellmen until the 52nd minute as Paul Williams pounced on a deflection to shoot past Gwydion Owen.

Junction pulled one back 5 minutes later as Dean Seager's free kick hit the back of the net. Junction were awarded a penalty with 78 minutes on the clock as Jack D'Arcy was adjudeged to have handled the ball in the box. The visitor's Seager stepped up to take the kick but it was saved brilliantly by Town's Mike Platt, much to the delight of the Wellmen's supporters.

Two minutes later, Town added a third through a stunning free kick by Tom McElmeel, who's curling shot beat the keeper and flew into the top corner. The goal was worthy of winning any game and sealed the victory and Town's place in the final where we are up against Llanrug United, who beat Penrhyndeudraeth 2-0 this afternoon. Details of the final will be announced shortly.

It was a great win by the Wellmen and despite not being at our best today, we still beat the League's 2nd place team to book our place in our first final of the season.

The Reserves made the short journey to Hawarden Rangers and came home with all 3 points after a convincing 4-0 win. Dan Simm opened the scoring before Ryan Davies added a second with his first goal after his long term injury. Josh Robertson got Town's third before Alex Roberts rounded off the scoring from the penalty spot.

The win means that Town remain top of the Reserves & Colts league and have now opened up a 3 point lead with a game in hand over Mold Alex who could only draw today against Queens Park.

Great weekend by both teams and the first team now look forward to next week's FAW Trophy Quarter Final as we make the long journey to Hakin United in South West Wales.
