Another victory for the Wellmen!

Holywell Town welcomed Llangefni Town to Halkyn Road for the first encounter between both clubs for a number of years. Holywell Town looked to carry their winning run going whilst Llangefni looked to get their first points on the board since their win on the opening weekend.
The game started brightly and both sides had chances to score. On 10 minutes, Ian Griffiths thought he had given Holywell the lead as he put the ball in the back of the net, but the linemsan had his flag up and the goal was disallowed as he was offside.

Marc Gunther and Steve Thomas had shots blocked and saved by the keeper and the deadlock was finally broken on 31 minutes through Steve Thomas who beat Liam Ewing in the visitors goal. Thomas picked the ball up and hit a stunning strike that gave the keeper no chance and even the goalkeeper applauded in appreciation of the strike.

Holywell’s next best chance came on 40 minutes when Marc Gunther passed the ball out to Danny Sullivan, and his cross was parried out by Ewing with Griffiths waiting at the far post. Holywell went in at the break a goal to the good but knew that Llangefni would come out second half to try to get something out of the game.

Llangefni had a couple of half chances early in the second half and Gunther and Griffiths nearly added to the score but Ewing saved well. Steve Thomas had to watch as his shot came off the cross bar and Mathew Roberts saw a good shot blocked by Llangefni’s Iolo Davies.

Llangefni started to believe they could sneak a draw by now and Steve Hughes saw his free kick saved well by Danny Stanton in the Holywell goal. Matt Devine and Tom Parry should have done better in front of goal and on 70 minutes, Marc Gunther had a cross come shot flash inches wide of the far post.

Ian Griffiths made sure the points were Holywell’s in the dying minutes when he broke the offside trap, which had saved Llangefni a couple of times during the second half, and beat the oncoming Ewing and guided his shot into the bottom corner. It was no more than Town deserved and the three points were in the bag. The winning run continues......
