Wellmen ease through into next round of NEWFA Challenge Cup

Town’s first competitive match of the season saw Clwyd League East side Bradley Park visit Halkyn Road in the 1st round of the NEWFA Challenge Cup.
The Wellmen started well and put the Bradley defence under pressure from the start. Charlie Hughes bore down the wing and his effort was only inches wide of the post. The Wellmen took the lead as early as the 5th minute, a good spell of pressure saw the ball fall to Danny Dobbins on the edge of the penalty area and his effort beat Anthony Denman to give Town the advantage.
Iwan Rogers then went close but his effort went wide of the post and Dobbins’ looping header from a Tony Roebuck corner fell on top of the crossbar and out for a goal kick. Bradley’s first real effort came on 20 minutes, Kirk Ratcliffe effort going wide of Danny Stanton’s post from a corner from the right. Shortly afterwards, another good spell of pressure saw the Wellmen go close, Iwan Rogers dangerous corner very nearly put into his own net by a defender but the keeper was alert to get down early to gather the ball.
With close to half hour on the clock, Town increased their lead. A good move down the right saw the ball find Danny Dobbins on the right, his run and cross was met by Tony Roebuck and his powerful header found the top corner of the net with the keeper beaten. A few minutes later, Town broke well again, Charlie Hughes beating 2 challenges but as he ran into the box, the keeper was out smartly to gather at Hughes’ feet.
With 38 minutes played, Luke Edwards burst forward and his low shot found the bottom corner. With minutes remaining in the first half, Mark Connolly was on hand to tap the ball home at the far post before he grabbed his second of the game, to make it 5-0 at the interval.

The second half was a minute old when Town added a 6th, Josh Robertson on hand to tap the ball home after the keeper spilled the ball from a cross, then Mark Connolly grabbed his hat trick a couple of minutes later, forcing the ball past the advancing keeper. With 10 minutes of the half played, Town made it 8-0 with Charlie Hughes grabbing a well-deserved solo goal, beating a few challenges and firing home then Josh Robertson grabbed his second of the game, forcing home from a low cross from the left.
Town grabbed their 10th goal in the 67th Minute. A good ball in by Jake Cooke saw substitute Jay Wilkes force the ball home despite the challenge of the Bradley Park keeper. Charlie Hughes was close but his shot just curved past the post for a goal kick. Charlie Hughes made it 11-0 a few minutes later, breaking and beating his marker before firing the ball past the keeper. Keiron Price then had an effort but it flew past the post then Danny Dobbins got his 2nd of the game heading home to make it 12-0. Jay Wilkes made it 13-0 a minute later, turning home Josh Robertson’s shot.
The referee soon blew for full time and the Wellmen were in the hat for the next round
