FOUR days after lifting the Welsh Alliance Division One title Holywell won the FAW Trophy with a hard-fought 4-2 victory over Penrhyndeudraeth in today’s final at Llandudno.

1st min: Penrhyndeudraeth almost take an early lead from a Steven Jones corner. Mathew Hughes’s header is blocked and Penrhyn are unable to convert the loose ball from a scramble.
6 min: Penrhyn’s Paul Roberts flashes a good effort across the face of goal.
7 min: Holywell’s Steve Thomas cuts in from the left and lets fly but his shot is straight at keeper Robert Watson.
12 min – GOAL: Thomas sends in a corner from the right and PHIL LLOYD heads home. Holywell 1 Penrhyn 0.
16 min: Mathew Hughes looks to be in for Penrhyn, but he is closed down quickly and his eventual shot fails to trouble keeper Mike Platt.
22 min: Lloyd releases Sam Jones whose shot is kept out by Watson.
28 min: Tom Hughes hits a fine free kick from 25 yards which Platt saves at the foot of his left-hand post.
28 min: Holywell’s Tony Roebuck goes off injured, replaced by John Leonard.
29 min: Lovely Sam Jones pass releases Paul Williams who runs the ball too far and allows Watson to thwart him.
42 min: Another marvelous pass by Sam Jones but Lloyd blasts wide.
45 min: Big Holywell chance. Thomas’s header picks out Matty Harvey in space inside the box, but his fierce strike clips the top of the crossbar.
45+2 – GOAL: Penrhyn equalise against the run of play. A ball is played into the box from the right and PAUL ROBERTS, who gets himself goal-side of his marker, controls and stabs home. Holywell 1 Penrhyn 1.
HALF-TIME: Holywell Town 1 Penrhyndeudraeth 1.
48 min: Holywell’s Thomas sees his powerful shot tipped over the bar by Watson.
54 min – GOAL: Watson is challenged when Lloyd’s cross come over from the right and the ball breaks to STEVE THOMAS who hooks home a beauty from an angle. Holywell 2 Penrhyn 1.
55 min: Almost an instant reply. Adam Griffiths pressurises Wellmen defender Lee Emberton and rounds Platt, but can only find the side-netting.
59 min: Holywell’s inflatable green crocodile ends up on the stand roof and is urged to get down by the stewards and stadium announcer.
61 min: Sam Jones’s slide-rule pass frees Thomas, who lashes just over.
62 min: Sam Jones goes down in the box – no penalty.
63 min – GOAL: Penrhyn prove they are still in it. Jack Jones delivers a cracking ball from the right and TOM HUGHES finishes superbly left-footed from an angle. Holywell 2 Penrhyn 2.
70 min – GOAL: PHIL LLOYD strikes a formidable low shot from the edge of the area and Watson cannot keep it out. Holywell 3 Penrhyn 2.
76 min: Penrhyn’s Paul Roberts is yellow-carded for kicking the ball away.
79 min – PENALTY: A Leonard throw comes into the box and referee Nick Pratt decides Tom McElmeel is unfair impeded by his Penrhyn opponent.
79 min – GOAL: SAM JONES blasts in from the spot. Holywell 4 Penrhyn 2.
80 min: Penrhyn substitution – Griffiths off, Carwyn Price on.
81 min: Double Holywell change – Emberton off, Graeme Williams on; Thomas off, Matty Roberts on.
83 min: The Green Crocodile ends up in the Penrhyn goalmouth and is red carded. Referee Pratt carries him off the field and the Croc is kept captive in the fourth official’s booth until the final whistle. The Holywell crowd who must have sung about 50 different songs during the game, are distraught.
84 min: Jack Jones off for Penrhyn, Richard Jones on.
