The Wellmen are in Welsh Cup action this weekend as they welcome Llandudno to Halkyn Road.

After the victory over New Brighton Villa in the last round, once the draw was made, the Wellmen could not wait to play the next round tie and to welcome Llandudno to Halkyn Road.
The Wellmen go into the game full of confidence, especially after last week’s impressive victory over Mold Alex, and will be looking to cause an upset and knock out the JD Cymru North side out of the competition. The Wellmen faced Llandudno back in 2012 in the second round of the competition, and Town progressed into the next round to face Caerau Ely despite trailing at Half Time. The visitors raced to a three goal lead before Town pulled one back in the dying minutes of the first half. Two further goal in the second half saw the tie go into extra time, and two further goals saw the Wellmen progress 5-3 after extra time.
Llanduno come into the game on the back of a 4-1 defeat last Tuesday evening to League Leaders Prestatyn Town, and the visitors will be looking to a good cup run after relegation from the Welsh Premier at the end of last season, and after their opening matches in the league campaign see them in a mid-table position, the Seasiders will hope a good cup run will raise the spirits amongst their supporters. Amongst the Llandudno line up will be ex Wellmen Shaun Pearson in goal, and Arron Pomeyie and Joe Carey looking to be involved in the starting 11.
The Wellmen are in a rich vein of form and last week’s win over Mold Alex ensures the Wellmen remained unbeaten in the Welsh National League. The Wellmen will include Mark Connolly (pictured) in their side, who last season played for Llandudno, and with him and Shaun Tuck amongst the goals already this season, both will be vying for a starting place amongst the starting 11.
Manager John Haseldin said in this week’s local paper, “We need to make sure we don’t undersell ourselves; we will be going out all guns blazing, be brave and give it everything we’ve got. Llandudno are expected to do well in the competition, but we want a run of our own and we will make it as difficult as we can for them to beat us.
We know that upsets do happen, we know an upset will happen tomorrow and we know what we need to do to beat Llandudno. We won’t change for Llandudno, we won’t shut up shop and we will back ourselves in front of a big crowd and support.
We produced a positive performance against Gresford in the NEWFA cup, and lads know that mistakes will be punished, we can play well and not win and that we need to be ruthless in the final third. Roll on Saturday!”
The Wellmen are reminding supporters that the match kicks off at 2.30pm and not 2.00pm as listed on some websites leading up to the game. Please make every effort to attend and cheer the lads on to victory, where your support can go along way to be the extra man which hopefully will see the Wellmen’s name in the hat come tea time on Saturday!
Come on Town!!
