Holywell Town defeated Hawarden Rangers 7-1 to progress into the 3rd Round of the FAW Trophy.

The match kicked off and the first chance of the game fell to Hawarden's Tom Bridges but he fired over the bar. Shortly afterwards, the Wellmen had a dream start as Mark Connolly put the side ahead after just 3 minutes. A ball through to Josh Robertson saw him shoot but Hawarden's keeper Josh Cooke make the save, but the ball fell to Mark Connolly who blasted the ball into the top corner to give Town the lead. The goal lifted the Wellmen and Sam Jones headed inches wide before Shaun Tuck had a shot blocked by the defender as it travelled goalwards.

The Wellmen increased their lead in the 23rd minute, a high ball into the box saw Tuck challenge with the keeper, but the keeper managed to punch the ball clear, but only as far as the unmarked Josh Robertson and he looked and saw the keeper off his line and from over 30 yards out, fired over everyone and the ball dropped into the back of the net. Tuck then had an overhead effort go inches wide before Bridges had the opportunity to pull a goal back for the home side but he shot straight at Mike Platt.

THe Wellmen added a thrid goal on 39 minutes, Tuck see's his shot saved by Cooke, but the ball goes out to Luke Edwards who cuts inside and his low cross is turned home by Sam Jones to make it 3-0. A few minutes later, it was 4-0 as Tuck saw his effort from inside the box creep into the back of the net via the post and the goal gave Town a 4 goal cushion at the break.

The second half was only a couple of minutes old when Hawarden Rangers pulled one back. The home side won a free kick and Tom Bridges saw his kick fly into the top corner. Any hope Rangers had of a comeback was dashed a minute later, as Mark Connolly from fully 40 yards saw the goalkeeper was off his line and his effort flew over the keeper and nestled into the back of the net, a great goal and vision by the Holywell striker. Hawarden's goalkeeper saved well from Tuck, then saving well from Jake Cooke's strike, turning it away for a corner.
The keeper did well to save Ben Brierley's shot with 78 minutes played, but he was only able to knock it into the path of Jake Cooke who controlled the ball before firing into the net to make it 6-1 to the Wellmen. With 10 minutes of the game remaining, Mark Connolly grabbed his hat trick, forcing a good save from the keeper but he was able to bundle the ball home under the challenge of the keeper and the defender to make it 7-1.

Ben Brierley nearly made it 8 with a few minutes remaining, doing well to get round the defender but his shot was saved well by Cooke, who got down well to save with one hand. The Referee blew shortly afterwards to cap a great victory for the Wellmen, and their name was safely into the hat for the next round.
