The Wellmen picked up a point in their first match in the Welsh National League after a 0-0 draw at home to Brymbo.

Holywell Town welcomed Brymbo to Halkyn Road in their first match of the season following the FAW's forced suspension on us being lifted, and Town looked to start their campaign with a victory.

The match started brightly with Charlie Hughes forcing the keeper to make a good early save, then a good move involving Jake Cooke saw him get to the by line, but his cut back was a little behind the on rushing Mark Connolly and the Brymbo defence were able to clear the ball to safety.

Brymbo also had their fair share of chances, with Jake Prescott forcing Mike Platt into a good save and Jordan Beer's free kick was only inches over Platt's crossbar. Town very nearly took the lead coming up to the half time interval, a good move saw Danny Dobbins break from defence, he lay the ball off to Charlie Hughes and his inch perfect cross found Mark Connolly but his header went inches over Chris Mullin's crossbar.

After the break, both sides tried to create an opening but after the half time downpour, conditions were tough on both sides, Town won and early free kick but Iwan Roger's kick went narrowly wide, then Brymbo's Chris Boyes shot wide of Platt's left hand post. Town very nearly took the lead midway through the half, a goalmouth scramble saw Shaun Tuck and Paul Williams both have snap shots blocked, then the referee saw a foul on the keeper and gave Brymbo the free kick.

Ryan Clarke's looping shot was only inches over the crossbar for the visitors, then Brymbo thought they had taken the lead but William New's effort was disallowed after he had fouled Danny Dobbins.

The point was a fair reflection on the game and Town will be looking to get their first win on the board this Saturday as we make the journey to Wrexham to face Rhos Aelwyd.
