Holywell Town defeated Plas Madoc 4-0 this afternoon at Halkyn Road.

I feel we got the deserved result in the end
- John Haseldin - Manager

The game got underway with the visitors taking the kick off. The first chance fell to the Wellmen, ball through the middle for Shaun Tuck, and his turn and shot was wide of Ryan Roberts’ post but Tuck was in an offside position. A few minutes later, Tuck’s overhead bicycle kick falls inches wide of the post, then Plas Madoc’s Keegan Jakoulevs swings in a dangerous free kick which beats everyone and falls wide of Danny Stanton’s right hand post.
Town very nearly took the lead with 15 minutes played, a good break sees the ball go out wide to Luke Edwards, his low cross is turned by Keegan Jakoulevs and rebounds off the post, it falls to Edwards again who drives the ball across the face of the goal but Tuck is unable to get his shot off under the challenge of the defender and the ball goes out for a goal kick.
Town finally make the breakthrough in the 21st minute, a good ball through for Shaun Tuck, he controls and dribbles to get a better angle, and his low shot beats Ryan Roberts and finds the bottom corner to give the home side the lead. A minute later, Plas Madoc break and their striker is fouled on the edge of the box, and from the resulting free kick, Nicky Williams’ effort beats the wall but Danny Stanton is on hand to pull off a great save, diving to his right to knock the ball out to safety.
Town win a corner and Luke Edwards dangerous cross finds Tuck but his glancing header goes wide of the target. Town double their lead on 36 minutes, Josh Robertson is brought down on the right, and Luke Edwards’ free kick into the box is headed home by Jacob Wise. No further chances fell for the sides and at the half time break, the score was 2-0 to Town.
The second half gets underway and Town very nearly grabbed a third goal a couple of minutes in. Shaun Tucks effort only partially blocked and Josh Robertson’s follow up is knocked behind by the keeper for a corner. A few minutes later, Lee Butterworth delivers a great cross into the box and Tucks effort goes wide of the target. Tuck, who was causing the away side problems, picked up the ball but he was tackled just as he was about to unleash a shot goalwards.
The visitors win a corner and a dangerous ball into the box see’s Danny Stanton having to punch the ball clear, then Town break through Tony Roebuck and he puts through a perfectly weighted pass for Josh Robertson but his first touch lets him down and the defender is able to force the ball out for a corner. The visitors keeper then has to tap the ball over the crossbar from a looping shot and from the resulting corner, the ball falls to Josh Robertson but his shot goes wide, then moments later, Robertson again has a shot on goal but it flies over the bar.
Town got the decisive 3rd goal on 72 minutes. Substitute Ben Brierly with his first touch of the ball, opened up his Holywell Town account tapping the ball home unmarked at the far post after a great low ball across goal. The Wellmen supporters had barely had time to celebrate that goal then Town scored a 4th goal. Shaun Tuck got his second of the game by firing home after a good ball into the box by Luke Edwards.
The Wellmen weren’t happy with four goals and still looked for more, James Graham’s fierce shot across face goes wide then up the other end, Plas Madoc win a corner and Richard Lawrence goal bound header is cleared off the line by Danny Desormeaux. In the final 10 minutes, Plas Madoc’s Ramone Nelson should have done better in front of goal, miskicking as he was about to shoot, then Ben Brierley had an effort saved by the keeper and Tuck firing wide when in on goal.
The referee blew for full time and Town chalked up their second win of the season and to continue their unbeaten run in the Welsh National League Premier Division.

Manager John Haseldin added, “I feel we got the deserved result in the end, scoring the 4 goals and keeping a clean sheet and happy with the performance by the lads today.”
