Holywell Town fought out a 1-0 victory this evening over neighbours Greenfield.

Played on a glorious summer evening, the first half was a close affair with neither sides properly testing the opposing keepers. Mark Connolly going closest for the Wellmen but his effort was saved, and Mike Platt thwarted any chances Greenfield's strikers had with a couple of good saves which left the half time score at 0-0.

The second half was only a couple of minutes old when Connolly nearly broke the deadlock but his effort clipped the crossbar and went out for a goal kick. As the half went on, Town created the better of the chances, Jake Cooke forcing Joe Lewis in the Greenfield goal to pull off a great save, before Lewis again was on hand to save from Tony Roebucks effort.

Mike Platt was alert to push a Dan Sim free kick behind the post for a corner with an hour or so on the clock before Cooke again went close a few minutes later. Town then won a penalty as Wayne Edwards was brought down in the area. Edwards got up and fired in the resulting spot kick to give Town a deserved lead. (Picture)

Shortly afterwards, the referee blew for full time, it was another victory and more minutes under our belts ahead of the new season.
