The Wellmen travelled over to Merseyside to face South Liverpool in their first preseason game.

Played in hot conditions, the match ended 0-0 but was an excellent run out for the side ahead of the new season.

The first chance of the afternoon fell to the Wellmen, Sam Jones released newcomer Sion Hogan, but his shot hit the sidenetting and out for a goal kick. With half hour on the clock, Town were let off when the home side's attacker was able to get a shot in on goal but fell wide of the post and didn't trouble Joe Griffith in the Wellmen's goal. With only minutes of the half remaining, Sam Jones was through on goal, but his chip was parried by South Liverpool's goalkeeper and the chance had gone and the scores were level at the break.

The second half continued where the first half ended with both sides trying to play good football. Both sides had chances early in the half but nothing to test either keeper, and it wasn't until the 70th minute that the deadlock was nearly broken after Sam Jones was put through and his effort from outside the area beat the keeper but rattled the crossbar and was cleared by the defender to safety.

The home side then had a couple of good chances with Griffiths saving well and the game ended goal less but was a good competitive game and 90 minutes under the players belts.

The Wellmen next travel to Heswall on Tuesday evening for their second freindly of the close season, kick off 7.30pm.
