Matty Roberts accepts defibrillator donation on behalf of Holywell Town FC.

Earlier this week, Holywell Town FC was presented with its very own Defibrillator by Russ Warburton from Ideal Lighting.

Russ, along with the Holywell Town Business Group, kindly arranged for the defibrillator unit to be housed at Halkyn Road Ground, having previously secured a permanent unit at the center of Holywell High Street.

This portable unit has been kindly donated by the Welsh Ambulance Service, providing extended facilities for this community hub.

Former Wellmen, Matty Roberts accepted the defibrillator on behalf of Holywell Town, having recently suffered from cardiac arrest whilst out jogging a few months back.

"It's amazing to see the increase in defibs in the area, and the increase in awareness of how cardiac arrests can affect anyone, at any time."

First Team Manager, Johnny Haseldin

"Matty, a fitness instructor by trade, was a major player for the Wellmen over the years, as part of our historical treble-winning squad and Welsh Cup semi-finalist. He recently suffered a cardiac arrest whilst out jogging, but we're thankful he is on the road to recovery. When I heard of this donation to the club, I wanted Matty to be a part of it."

Each year, around 300,000 people in the UK suffer from cardiac arrest. Having access to a defibrillator can, in many instances, mean the difference between life and death. Although fortunate to be situated so close to the Community Hospital, Halkyn Road Ground is used and visited by people of all ages and abilities, making it vital that such equipment is readily accessible if needed.

Full-training for members of the public will be arranged over the coming weeks, in association with the Welsh Ambulance Service.
