Buckley Town 4-0 Holywell Town
By Steve Roberts
The Wellmen fell to a disappointing 4-0 defeat at the hands of near neighbours Buckley Town.
The Wellmen fell behind on 12 minutes when Adam Eden gave the hosts the lead, before Aled Bellis added a second with around 20 minutes on the clock. Town looked to get back in the game and the closest they came to scoring in the first half was a Stuart Hayes effort which was saved by Buckley Keeper Joe Makaruk.
The second half started and Town looked for an early goal to get back into the game and Hayes again came close, as his shot hit the side netting after good work by Mark Winslade. Town were indebted to Andy Metcalf shortly afterwards as he tipped over a Jake Roberts shot but that save was shortlived shortly afterwards as the hosts extended their lead through Adam Eden, who cut inside into the box, and from a tight angle fired in an unstoppable shot at Town's goal and Metcalf was unable to keep the ball out despite getting a deft touch to the ball.
There was no coming back now for the Wellmen, and Buckley added a 4th goal with around 10 minutes remaining, Metcalf coming out well to challenge and block a run by Eden, but his clearance fell to Josh Jones, who controlled the ball around 40 yards out and fired the ball into an empty net to make it 4-0. The Wellmen then went close as Lee Davey saw his shot saved well by Makaruk and as the referee blew for full time shortly afterwards, the victory was the home side's and there could be no arguments by the Wellmen that they were beaten by the better side on the night.
Manager John Haseldin added shortly after the match, "Absolutely gutted with that performance and result tonight, always going to be a few tears before we get things right but nevertheless, the performance was totally unacceptable. 2 weeks now to regroup and get everyone back available."
The club would like to thank the supporters who made the journey to Buckley this evening.
