The Wellmen picked up their first three points of the season after a 2-1 victory over Llanrhaeadr YM at Halkyn Road.

The Wellmen looked for an early goal and were nearly rewarded when Matty Kendricks looping header from a corner fell over the cross bar and onto the top of the net, before Sam Jones had a long range effort go inches over.

Goalkeeper Andy Metcalf kept the scores level, producing a great low save to deny the visitors taking the lead, before Sam Jones again went close but his effort went just wide of Connor Lee's post. The Wellmen's last chance of the half fell to Connor Littler, and his goalbound effort was brilliantly saved by Lee and Damien Ketley was unable to get a touch on the loose ball before the keeper was able to gather. With the half time whistle fast approaching, Llanrhaeadr's Khytam Wytton flashed a header inches wide and the score remained 0-0 at the break.

The second half was only a minute old when the Wellmen won a free kick on the edge of the area. Sam Jones stepped up to take it and his free kick flew into the top corner with the goalkeeper well beaten. The goal lifted Town, and a minute later, another good move saw Ketley run into the box before being brought down and the referee pointed straight to the spot. Up Stepped Sam Jones and he fired in the penalty to increase Town’s lead.

Llanraeadr YM looked to get back into the game and with an hour on the clock, Khytam was tackled in the box by Mathew Harvey and the referee pointed to the spot, and Iwan Matthews pulled one back for the visitors to make it 2-1.

Matthew Cole then was the hero, his goal line clearance from Dan Kelly's header preventing the visitors from equalising, then with minutes remaining, Metcalf capped off a great display with a point blank reaction save to deny Llanraeadr's Iwan Matthews.

The referee blew for full time and the Wellmen had their first 3 points of the season in the bag and we are up and running, and the players walked off to a well deserved round of applause by the Wellmen Supporters. (pictured)

Great win by the lads and roll on next Friday when Conwy Borough come to Halkyn Road for a 7.30pm kick off.
