Holywell Town were held to a 1-1 draw this afternoon against Penrhyncoch.

"I'm disappointed with our performance today against a tough Penrhyncoch side and I feel the draw was probably a fair result.
- John Haseldin - Manager

THe match was switched from Halkyn Road to Bala Town's 3G pitch at Maes Tegid because of the playing surface at Halkyn Road after a couple of days of rain showers.

The match started brightly and Shaun Pearson was forced to punch the ball clear with only a few minutes on the clock from a good cross in by the Penrhyncoch wideman, then Town had a chance up the other end following a good move down the right by Mark Winslade, who saw his low cross into the box beat the defender but Sam Jones narowly failed to connect with the goal at his mercy.

Lee Davey then volleyed the ball over the bar, then a Sam Jones free kick found the head of Matty Harvey but his header was saved by goalkeeper Leigh Jenkins. Pearson was then called into action, saving well from Liam Lewis, the Lewis in the next move should have done better but saw his shot saved again by Pearson. Shortly afterwards, the visitors were ahead through Nashawn Blake, who slotted the ball under Pearson to give the visitors a half time lead.

Town needed an early goal to get back into the game, and it came a couple of minutes into the half through Sam Jones (pictured), as his looping header beat the despairing dive of Jenkins in the Penrhyncoch goal. The goal lifted the Wellmen, and shortly afterwards, Winslade had a shot defelcted for a corner.

Liam Lewis then saw his header come off the crossbar, then Matthew Kendrick saw his poerful header from a corner smash against the crossbar and back out into play. Paul Williams then shot over and sub Shaun Tuck then went on a run into the box and his shot was blocked. The visitors could have taken the points with a late winner, but sub Hari Harwood's shot blazed well wide of the post with only Pearson to beat.

The referee blew for full time and the points were shared. It was a tough afternoon for the Wellmen and a point a piece was probably a fair refelction of the game.

Manager John Haseldin added, "I'm disappointed with our performance today against a tough Penrhyncoch side and I feel the draw was probably a fair result. I would like to thank Bala Town for hosting the game and the coach full of supporters were first class as always."

Echoing Hasledin's comment, the club were grateful to the good number of Holywell Town supporters who made the journey to Bala to our home from home for the afternoon, and we would like to thank Bala Town FC for all their help ahead of us switching the tie to Maes Tegid.

The Wellmen are on the road next Saturday, and make the journey to Caersws for the re-arranged game which was called off a couple of weeks ago.
