The Wingmakers are left grounded as the Wellmen seal emphatic 4-1 victory at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium

"What a result and performance that was - loved it"
- Steve Thomas - Captain

Played on a bitterly cold afternoon, the Wellmen started brightly with Brady McGilloway and Sam Jones causing problems for the home side's back four, and Jones was involved in the Wellmen's first goal after five minutes had been played. Picking up the ball in midfield, Jones ran down the left hand side, and then cut inside into the box and his low cross into the danger area was only parried by the goalkeeper and the ball fell to Steve Lewis who fired the ball into the rough of the net to give the Wellmen a great start. The home side equalised with twenty five minutes played, the ball falling to Leo Riley, who controlled the ball well before firing into the top corner past Shaun Pearson, giving the keeper no chance. Town still created chances, and added a deserved second with ten minutes remaining of the first half. Lewis picked up the ball close to the halfway line, and his powerful run saw him beat the challenge of the defender, and once past him, there was no stopping Lewis, who ran into the box, before firing goal wards, and the advancing keeper could only get a touch to the ball and the pace saw the ball loop into the net, much tot eh delight of the travelling support who had gathered behind the goal.

The score remained 2-1 at the break, and five minutes into the second half, Town increased their lead as Sam Jones fired home a penalty after Jon Jones had been fouled in the penalty area. The Wellmen continued to press looking for more goals, and also the defence held firm with anything Airbus threw at them, and Town added a 4th in injury time as Lewis completed his hat trick, firing past Andy Coughlin to cap a great team performance.

It was Holywell Town's best performance in a long while, and scoreline could have easily been 6 or 7 with the Wellmen hitting the crossbar on a couple of occasions and the other chances the side had in front of goal. After a tough few games, it was great to get back to winning ways and manager John Haseldin was full of praise for his side at the end of the game by adding, "Now thats a Holywell Town performance to be proud of! The boys were outstanding today, got to keep standards high and kick on now".

The Wellmen next face Holyhead Hotspur at Halkyn Road next Saturday in a re-arranged game, and hoping to build on this afternoon's excellent performance.

After the bad weather of the past couple of days, the Reserves home game against Overton on Saturday afternoon was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. The game will be re-arranged before the end of the season.
