Holywell Town bowed out of the Welsh Cup following a 2-0 defeat at Welsh Premier League side Aberystwyth Town

Disappointing we didnt play anywhere near as well as we can today
- John Haseldin

It was the third time in four seasons that the clubs had face each other in the Welsh Cup, and with the Welsh Premier side winning the previous two, the Wellmen were hoping it was a case of third time lucky before the game.
The game got underway and with both sides looking for an early advantage, the home side came close with a couple of minutes on the clock but Paul Turner saved well from Luke Borelli. Both sides created chances but nothing to really test either keeper and the home side took the lead on the half hour mark. Aberystwyth won a free kick and Chris Jones' kick was saved well by Turner, but the ball fell kindly to Kurtis march who headed the ball over Turner to give the Welsh Premier side the lead.
Town were dealt a sucker punch a minute into injury time when Aberystwyth doubled their lead. A long ball from the Aber defence saw Borelli beat the offside trap and ran on to slot the ball past the advancing Turner to give the home side a two goal cushion at the break.

The goal deep in injury time dictated the second half. The home side happy to prevent the Wellmen creating many chances and indeed were the better side, with Geoff Kellaway having the best of the chances for Aber but was unable to increase their lead.
The game ended 2-0 to the Welsh Premier league side and deservedly take their place in the hat for the 4th round draw.
Manager John Haseldin tweeted after the game, "Disappointing we didn't play anywhere near as well as we can today, didn't get the breaks at crucial times but better team won on the day. Thanks to everyone that made the long journey to support us today sorry we couldn't give you more on the day!"
"Good luck to Aberystwyth and all the lower league clubs that are left in and caused upsets today"
Yet again, a good number of supporters made the long journey to Aberystwyth and the Club would like to thank them for their support and making themselves heard at Park Avenue.
A minute's silence was held before kick off to honour the victims of the plane crash which claimed 75 victims in Medellin, Colombia on Tuesday 29th November 2016.
The victims included the Brazilian football team of Chapecoense who were travelling to play in the final of the Copa Sudamericana.

Good Luck to Aberystwyth in the next round
