The Wellmen lose 5-3 to Cefn Druids in highly entertaining game at Halkyn Road to bow out of the competition.

The Wellmen couldn't have had a worse start as Cefn Druids took the lead through Adam Eden with only 5 minutes on the clock. Holywell Town got back into the game and pressed for the equaliser, but from a Holywell Town attack, Cefn Druids broke quickly and Corey Roper oubled their lead. Disaster struck for the Wellmen on 38 minutes as the visitors scored another through Ashley Ruane, and 3 down at the break, the Wellmen had a mountain to climb in the second half to get anything out of the game.

The second half started and Town began to press looking to get back into the game, and on the hour mark, Town got on the scoresheet through substitute Connor Littler, who followed up Sam Jones' shot to knock the ball past Cefn Druids keeper Mike Jones.

With Town attacking and looking for a second goal, Cefn Druids hit the Wellmen a sucker punch by adding to their tally through Steve Blenkinsopp, who capitalised on an error at the back and left to run the ball into an empty net. A couple of minutes later, Town pulled one back from the penalty spot through Connor Littler after Sam Jones had been pulled in the area by the players. Again, with 85 minutes played, the visitors scored to make it 2 - 5.

With the clock ticking down, Town were awarded another penalty after Connor Littler had been fouled in the box by Mike Jones the keeper, and once again, he made no mistake from the spot to make it 3-5.

The Wellmen couldn't get another couple of goals to force the tie into extra time, but Holywell Town can be proud of their performance, especially in their second half performance where they made it difficult for Cefn Druids.

The draw for the next round of the Nathaniel MG Cup is due on Thursday 7th September and Holywell Town would like to wish Cefn Druids the best of luck in the forthcoming rounds.

Town will look to bounce back on Saturday at Caersws with a 2.30pm kick off in their Huws Gray Alliance League match.
