Sam Jones has been named FAW Welsh Cup Player of the Round after our Welsh Cup 1st Round game against Hay St Marys.

Sam undoubtedly won the man of the match award that afternoon and his hat trick helped Town to record a 4-2 win over the Spar Mid Wales side.

The FAW website reported that Jones put in a remarkable performance up front for the Wellmen in their 4-2 victory over Hay St Marys on 4th October.

The St-Asaph born 26 year old scored his and Holywell’s first goal after only four minutes, before scoring his second of the afternoon on 31 minutes from the penalty spot.

Jones completed his hat trick on 71 minutes to put Town 3-1 up against the Spar Mid Wales League club. His hat-trick brought his goal tally to 15 for the season.

A club spokesman for Holywell said; “Sam would have doubled his tally on Saturday if it wasn’t for some good goalkeeping by Tom Lewis in goal for Hay St Mary’s.

“But Jones led his team well for the full 90 minutes and his performance and determination, as well as his three goals, undoubtedly won him the Man of the Match award, with even Hay St Mary’s complementing him via Twitter when he scored his hat trick.”

Sam will now receive a memento ahead of a future home match in the next few weeks and receive recognition on the FAW website, as well as being included in the FAW's Voice magazine.

Next May, Sam will be presented with an award on the pitch ahead of the Welsh Cup Final and will also be included in the FAW Welsh Cup team of the season.

Its a truly excellent achievement for Sam to pick up this award and is well deserved. Our congratulations go out to him from everyone at the club!

Well done Sam.,,,,,,,
