Holywell Town Reserves fell to a 3-2 defeat to Ruthin Town in the opening day fixture.

The Wellmen took a deserved lead midway through the first half through Nathan Williams, scoring from outside of the box. The visitors equalised shortly afterwards through Llion Thomas, Ruthin then took the lead with a few minutes remaining of the half as Llion Thomas grabbed his second of the game.

The second half saw the Wellmen come close on a number of occasions to get a deserved equaliser, Lewis Marshall and Kyle Wilkes going close. The Equaliser came midway through the half when Town won a penalty. Up stepped Ryan Edge and his spot kick (pictured) found the back of the net.

Town being level with Ruthin only lasted a couple of minutes however as Ruthin Town took the lead again as Elgan Hughes header beat Simpson in the Holywell goal. Town tried desperately to get the equaliser they deserved in the remainder of the match, with the Ruthin goalkeeper pulling off a couple of great saves to keep his side in the lead but they held on and soon after the referee blew for full time.
It was a disappointing result for the lads, especially as they deserved at least a draw, but the Reserves can bounce back on Wednesday night as they welcome Johnstown YFC to Halkyn Roadfor a 7.30pm kick off.
