Holywell Town lost 2-1 against Llanrug United in tonight's Cookson Cup Final.

The game started well for the Wellmen with Tom McElmeel forcing a good save out of Dylan Roberts in the Llanrug goal, and Sam Jones only inches away from tapping the ball into the net from a Phil Lloyd cross.

But Llanrug took the lead against the run of play on 24 minutes, as John Peris Jones headed home past Mike Platt. 10 minutes or so later, Llanrug doulbed their lead as Carl Griffiths fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Town came out in the second half and equalised midway through the half through Paul Williams. Tom McElmeel and Stuart Hayes both went close for the Wellmen as they pressed for an equaliser. Town had two blatant penalty appeals for handball waived away by referee Robin Williams but it wasn't to be and despite Town playing the better football between both teams, and having most possession, it was Llanrug who hung on to win the Cookson Cup for 2015.

Town now turn their attention to Saturday when Pwllheli visit Halkyn Road in the Mawddach Cup.
