The Wellmen return to pre-season action on Saturday with a trip to Haughmond Football Club in Shrewsbury.

Fresh from Tuesday night 5-1 victory over Heswall, Manager Gareth Sudlow will be hoping for the same with victory over the West Midlands League Side.

Haughmond Football Club are based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. They are currently members of the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division and play at Shrewsbury Sports Village. The club was established in 1980. They later joined the Shropshire County Premier League and were Premier Division runners-up in 2008–09 and 2009–10,before winning the league and the Ron Jones Memorial Cup in 2010–11. The club were subsequently promoted to Division Two of the West Midlands (Regional) League, and went on to win Division Two the following season, resulting in promotion to Division One. In 2013–14 the club were Division One runners-up and were promoted to the Premier Division.
The 2016–17 season saw Haughmond win the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division, resulting in promotion to the Premier Division of the Midland League.

Haughmond are unknown opposition for us, and we can't recall the sides have ever met before, but confidence must be high amongst the squad after Tuesday's victory. 2nd half Goals from Matty Harvey (2), Jonathon Jones, Connor Littler and Mike Guest sealed the victory after the Wellmen found themselves a goal behind at half time. Sion Hogan (pictured) again having a good game for the Wellmen.

After the match, Manager Gareth Sudlow said, "I'm made up to get our first win as a Management team and new squad. The attitude of the players was first class.....onto Saturday now!"

Coach Dave Sweet added, "So many positives against Heswall and it was nice to score 5 goals as well. I'm looking forward to travelling to Haughmond on Saturday for preseason game number 3."

The management team will once again be giving a run out to all the players available as they all fight to impress the management team with only a couple of weeks remining until the season starts proper. Recent signing Connor Littler will be looking to add to Tuesday's goal.

The match has been switched to Hanwood Recreation Ground in Cruckmeole, Shrewsbury, postcode SY5 8JN.

Directions:
Follow the A55 to Chester Posthouse Roundabout, then follow signs for Wrexham / Oswestry along the A483. Go past Wrexham, then join the A5 near the Llangollen junction. Stay on the A5 and follow directions to Shrewsbury. Go past the Woodcote Roundabout and stay on the A5 to the Edgebold Roundabout, then take the 3rd exit onto the A488 and stay on this road until you enter the village of Cruckmeole.
