Holywell Town fell to a 2-0 defeat at home today to Guilsfield.

"I'm gutted about today, we played some good stuff first half but paid the price for not taking the chances when on top and then the slack start to the second half."
- John Haseldin - Manager

The Wellmen welcomed 4th place Guilsfield to Halkyn Road knowing that a victory would see the Wellmen leapfrog over Guilsfield in our aim to finish 2nd in the table.

A couple of chances fell to the Wellmen in the first half, with Mark Winslade having a shot saved by the keepers legs, and Matty Harvey heading inches wide at the far post from a Steve Thomas corner, but Town couldn't get the decisive first goal. A couple of minutes before the break, against the run of play, the visitors took the lead when Robbie James headed home past Shaun Pearson and it was Guilsfield who had the lead at the half time interval.

The second half was only a couple of minutes old when Guilsfield added a second goal through Jake Cooke. Picking up the ball on the edge of the area, he turned and fired home past Pearson's dive and the ball nestled into the net via the post. This wasn't the start the Wellmen wanted to the second half and it was a bigger mountain to climb to get anything out of the game. That task was made harder around 10 minutes into the half as Town's Sam Jones was sent off by the match referee for his second yellow card of the afternoon.

A couple of chances fell to the Wellmen late on but we were unable to find the back of the net and it was Guilsfield who took home the points in what was their last match of the current season.

A disappointed John Haseldin said after the game, "I'm gutted about today, we played some good stuff first half but paid the price for not taking the chances when on top and then the slack start to the second half."

The defeat see's the Wellmen remain in 5th place in the Huws Gray Alliance League, but there is still 9 points to play for to see us climb the table at the end of the season. The Wellmen welcome Denbigh Town to Halkyn Road on Wednesday and Town will have the chance to put today's disappointment behind us and get back to winning ways.

The Reserves also fell to defeat this afternoon, losing 4-0 to Maesgwyn and the Reserves welcome Maesgwyn to Halkyn Road on Monday evening for the return match and will be looking to make amends for today's defeat.
