The Wellmen were knocked out of the NEWFA Challenge Cup this afternoon by Hawarden Rangers.

With the scores locked at 0-0 at the end of 90 minutes, extra time was played and after a further 30 minutes and no team able to break the deadlock, the match went to penalties to decide the tie.

Paul D Williams watched in horror as his penalty was saved by the Hawarden keeper, then Jamie McDaid and Shaun Tuck converted their penalties. Up stepped captain Steve Thomas but his penalty kick hit the post and came back across the goal but rolled agonisingly past the other post to put a big advantage for Hawarden Rangers. The visitors Elliott Slade scored his to send his side through to the next round.

The Wellmen must pick themselves up ahead of Saturday's final game of the season when we make the short journey to Mold Alex for an earlier than usual kick off time of 1.30pm.
